Murder, She Wrote 2: Return to Cabot Cove
Description
Return to Cabot Cove is the sequel to Murder, She Wrote. It is a hidden-object adventure game featuring Jessica Fletcher as the protagonist, a renowned mystery novelist who often helps police solve the murder crimes. By using her sharp wit and power of observation, Jessica pieces the things together and find clues that lead to the culprit.
The game features three new cases presented as Jessica's murder mystery novels which need to be played in a progressive manner, finishing one book case unlocks the next one. Voice-acting is present during cut-scenes and key dialogues while looking at objects and places as well as occasional personal comments and windowed dialogues rely solely on on-screen text. At core a hidden-object game, this adventure features item inventory which contains items that are automatically added to it for later use on other objects or characters.
Puzzle oriented mini-games are often encountered during the investigation and can be skipped after a certain period of time. Hidden object scenes require you to find all the objects on the scene in order to pick the one that you will need later one. But Jessica is a writer, and on each hidden objects scene several keys from her typewriter end up missing as well which in turn result in obfuscated list of words that describe the objects you need to find. Finding the missing typewriter keys, which is optional, will reveal the missing letters on the list of hidden objects.
Each murder mystery can be played in either Casual or Expert mode. Casual is an easy one which highlights interactive areas and takes only one minute to replenish the time necessary to use the hint. Expert mode is a bit more difficult as it takes two minuted for a hint to be available and does not highlight interactive areas leaving it to player to click and explore whatever may seem of interest, whether accessible or not. Jessica also keeps track of clues and objectives in her notebook which can be accessed at any time during gameplay. The game doesn't use linear narrative and lets you move between locations freely and solve puzzles and gather clues in any order while your actions clue gathering will trigger changes at other locations.
