New York Race

In finale, NY Race is quick, well-design and very pretty. Though it is not exactly mentally challenging, nor will it remaining interesting for very long. Fans of Lyc Besson’s vision may well relish the novelty of the landscapes, but there’s only so long marvelling at the graphics can last.

All tracks have been designed pretty much the same. Aquarium Tower, for instance, contains a short section in which you see huge fish while racing through glass tubes, and the rest of the track looks like any other track in the district. Graphics are definitely the best thing in this game. The vehicles and the futurist New York have been designed in detail. Still, New York Race can be nothing more than short-term fun due to the monotonous tracks.

Rennsimulationsfreaks dürfen ohne Gewissensbisse weiterblättern - New York Race versagt in Sachen Realismus und Optionsvielfalt total. Wer aber beim Begriff Funracer nicht gleich auf die Barrikaden geht oder "nur" mal ein paar Rennen fahren möchte, darf ruhig einen zweiten Blick riskieren: Der Racer von Wanadoo ist nämlich gerade für die Leute wie geschaffen, die eigentlich gar keine Rennspiele mögen. Das ganze Rumgetune am eigenen Vehikel fällt flach, die Steuerung ist angenehm einfach und eins von diesen klobigen Lenkrädern braucht's schon mal gleich gar nicht. Stattdessen steigen Sie in einem futuristischen New York in einen ähnlich futuristischen Space-Gleiter, flitzen munter drauflos und wundern sich, dass das seltsamerweise unheimlich lustig ist.

The only real problem is that this is a racing game, and a typically shallow one which follows the same formula of dozens before it. The highlight is to progress through a rather tired Championship Mode, unlocking new vehicles as you go. It certainly isn't a game to keep you at your PC for any length of time and though it might be fast and fun for a while, Crazy Taxi this certainly isn't.

Rennspiel-Fans, die sich an der etwas sterilen Atmosphäre nicht stören, sollten dem Programm ruhig eine Chance geben.

Un titre désservi par sa maniabilité qui se veut souvent agaçante alors que les performances au niveau des graphismes sont en dents de scie. NYR trouvera sans aucun doute son public mais on recommandera aux joueurs de l'essayer avant de l'acheter histoire d'éviter les mauvaises surprises.
