Odyssey: The Search for Ulysses

If you have ever wanted to captain a flying ship, be a passenger in Charon's sloop, or be tested by Poseidon, then Odyssey is a must-have for your adventure collection. Now if you will excuse me, after conquering the combined malicious and devious forces of gods and monsters alike, I feel I deserve some R&R. If I can only remember where I earlier encountered that charming young "lady."

Dans les graphismes, heureusement, on retrouve la patte de Cryo. Nombreux décors, ambiance toujours aussi oniriques avec un certain don pour la fantasmagorie. Les ambiances sont vraiment différentes suivant les endroits que vous visiterez et le moteur donne de très bons effets de caméras, toujours dans une approche cinématographique. Cinématiques, horizons flamboyants de couchers de soleil, les graphismes d'Odyssée ne sont pourtant pas exempts de tout défaut. Tout d'abord les personnages qui bien animés sont un peu trop cubiques et ternes. Si de loin, ces petits défauts ne font pas impression c'est de près que c'est nettement trop flagrant. D'autre part, les décors en eux même manquent un peu de finesse, et ont tendance à baver... Mais les couleurs sont assez changeantes et particulièrement bien utilisées pour palier tout ça.

In spite of these shortcomings, Odyssey remains an enjoyable game, because the story and characters are engaging enough to hold your attention until the conclusion. Though its problems might be frustrating at first, once you settle into the game, you'll be in for a suitably rewarding adventure.

Ondanks enkele onvolmaaktheden slaagt het game erin ons een weergave van de Griekse mythologie voor te schotelen zoals we ons die altijd voorstelden.

Wie fast alle Cryo-Spiele überzeugt Odyssee zwar optisch, stellt aber erfahrene Adventure-Fans trotz interessanter Thematik mit wenig innovativen Standardrätseln vor keine allzu große Herausforderung.

Das müssen ja schöne Helden gewesen sein, diese alten Grieche: Nehmen vor jedem räudigen Köter Reißaus, erklimmen nicht mal die kleinste Treppenstufe und ertrinken in jeder dahergelaufenen Wasserpfütze. Und auch sonst bereitet dieses - zugegeben recht hübsch in Szene gesetzte - Abenteuer nicht allzu viel Freude: Die meisten Häuse, Treppen und Höhlen sind nicht begehbare Staffage, die einfach gestrickten Rätsel erfordern weitaus mehr Herumgerenne als Gehirnschmalz und auch die deutsche Sprachausgabe klingt manchmal bemüht wie beim Schülertheater.

Уж извините за невольную переделку классики, но сами понимаете, если начал однажды — останавливаться в конце будет просто глупо. Хотя лучше, признаться, и не начинать вовсе. Взрослые будут продолжать надеяться, что для Cryo, этой загадочнейшей компании современности, еще не все потеряно, и что, в конце концов, они ка-а-ак разродятся очередным случайным шедевром вроде гениального "Фауста"; ну а дети… А дети пусть читают книжки (можно с картинками). Клянусь Дионисом, всем тогда будет хорошо.

DreamCatcher Interactive has had some hits and some misses with their adventure games. Odyssey definitely has its share of strengths but it falls short by relying on a tired puzzle model, an unstable interface and sluggish story development. I didn't mind the look of the game as much as some of the other guys around here did, but maybe that's because I was trying to find something good to latch onto in this game. By the time I had spent a few days wandering around the world of Odyssey, I was sure I never wanted to return.

Cryo postanowiło wprowadzić na rynek grę niewiele różniącą się od poprzedniczki. Nie poprawiono kilku błędów, które w "Wehikule czasu" po prostu raziły w oczy. Sterowanie nie uległo zmianie, praca kamer dalej utrudnia życie. Firma zrobiła grę na nowym enginie, a potem wydawała kilka następnych bardzo podobnych do pierwowzoru. Może w wypadku gier edukacyjnych ten pomysł nie był taki zły, ale ,,Odyseja" jest czymś nieświeżym. Sam nie wiem, dlaczego wywołała u mnie takie uczucia. Może mam jakieś podświadome uprzedzenia albo Bóg wie co jeszcze, ale ta gra po prostu mi się nie podobała. Kropka.

For me, it almost ended shortly afterwards. First impressions are important, and my first impressions were not good. Having worked my way through a confusing (albeit artistic) set of options screens, I was confronted by the game interface. Fifteen minutes later I was ready to quit.

Per la serie: una bella occasione sprecata. Difficile trovare tanti bugs concentrati in un gioco solo. L'argomento si prestava per la creazione di una bella avventura condita di storia, mito, eroi e dei, ma purtroppo il tutto è finito nelle mani di sviluppatori che hanno fatto di questo gioco un pasticciaccio a volte esasperante. Da evitare con cura.

I'm sure there are people out there who will like Odyssey: The Search for Ulysses. I just happen not to be one of them. Although Odyssey tells a decent story, I didn't think it was much fun to play -- a poor interface and too many puzzles that kill your character for a wrong choice make this the kind of game that can easily try your patience.

Die Kameraperspektive schenkt Ihnen zwar eine schöne Obenauf-Ansicht, schwenkt aber immer dann, wenn sie es eigentlich nicht sollte. Wachen murksen Sie ohne Grund ab, und die Dialoge lassen Sie noch verwirrter zurück, als Sie es ohnehin schon sind.
