The Omega Stone is a shining example of an adventure game that distinguishes itself proudly among all the others! Not many developers would take the time and energy needed to recreate these famous sites with the care and attention that they require or conduct the many hours of research that this game calls for. Not many games can claim to give you the feeling of actually being there, of experiencing the history of each of these famous sites. Jeff and Karen Tobler have succeeded with The Omega Stone and in the process created an unforgettable adventure game that clearly demonstrates their passion for archaeology and its many wonders!

Despite my side issue quibbles at the end of the review - that is really just noise in terms of whether a particular game is worth your hard earned money or not. In truth, The Omega Stone is one of those games that is destined to be a classic. My final thoughts are these: at the end of this game I was thrilled, happy and disappointed. Thrilled to have discovered Omega’s mysteries, happy to have seen all of it’s delights and disappointed that it was all over and done with. For at the end of it all - it is how reluctant we are to see that final end screen that matters the most.

The game's biggest strengths are its clever puzzles, wonderful scenes, and colorful atmosphere. At times I feel I am part of some world history documentary about the mysteries of ancient civilizations. I also appreciate the egghead humor sprinkled throughout the game, such as a can of coffee with a funny message on the back.

Eigentlich bin ich ja eher auf der Action-Schiene anzusiedeln und entscheide mich auch bei Rollenspielen oft für den gewaltvollen Vormarsch. Mit "The Omega Stone" konnte mich jetzt innerhalb kurzer Zeit bereits das zweite klassische Adventure wirklich fesseln und im Vergleich zum kürzlich getesteten "Dark Fall" hat Entwickler Omni Adventures hier auch im technischen Bereich alles richtig Gemacht. Das Spiel bietet eine spannende und fesselnde Geschichte, es überzeugt grafisch wie kaum ein anderes Adventure und die Rätsel sind ebenfalls sehr gelungen. Das ganze wird noch mit einem sehr grossen Spielumfang garniert und überzeugt uns heuer (natürlich auch neben Titeln wie Baphomets Fluch 3, Law & Order oder Post Mortem) davon, dass das Adventure-Genre keineswegs als tot zu bezeichnen ist.

Rosemary and I generally try to play adventure games together and often the measure of a game for us is how quickly we both become engrossed in it. From the very start when we collected some fascinating scrolls and set about working out the clues of the hieroglyphics, we were enthusiastic. Exploring the tunnels of Chitchen Itza and discovering more mysterious writing and many equally mysterious artefacts heightened this enthusiasm. We enjoyed it immensely, particularly solving the alchemy puzzle towards the end. This puzzle took some time as it drew together multiple clues and it gave us a real sense of achievement.

This affection also makes the game easy to recommend. The difficulty of the puzzles will undoubtedly limit the game's appeal, but those who enjoy a challenge will find plenty to like about The Omega Stone. And the detailed information about the various locales only serves to make the game that much more enjoyable.

A nice adventure to while away the hours with, especially if players are historical buffs. The locations add to the fun, with exotic places like Stonehenge and Easter Island. The story itself is a little weak, but most players of these type games are more interested in the puzzles than the story. Players who enjoyed the first Riddle of the Sphinx are sure to enjoy this sequel.

The Omega Stone builds and improves on the excellent foundation provided by Riddle of the Sphinx. Rather than pander to the action addiction of many of today’s gamers, this new release intentionally caters to those who eschew cheap thrills and immediate visceral gratification for the more delayed satisfaction coming from true deductive virtual problem solving. As the pieces of the puzzle slowly fall into place, you begin to realize what a complex tapestry you have become part of in your quest. While this title is clearly not for everyone, and has significant shortcomings in some areas, the generally high production values combined with the unending series of coherent brain-stretching enigmas make this worth a serious look.

TOS offers a strong story line and good graphics, but a cumbersome interface, some non-intuitive, and highly arcane puzzles prevent a higher rating.

Quel dommage ! Oui, quel dommage que la réalisation technique ne soit pas à la hauteur des énigmes qui sont difficiles et passionnantes à résoudre. De plus, le scénario manque cruellement de rebondissements et il ne se passe pas grand chose durant la majeure partie du jeu. Enfin, une carte accessible à tout moment, ça n'aurait pas été du luxe pour se repérer dans des lieux souvent alambiqués. Cependant, The Omega Stone plaira aux fans de jeux d'aventure-réflexion qui trouveront dans ce titre un challenge à leur mesure.

I wanted to like The Omega Stone, I really did. OCG clearly put a lot of work into the title and it shows. Any group of people trying to breathe life back into the adventure game genre should be applauded and supported. At the end of the day, though, the difficulty of the game's puzzles (aggravated by a poor interface), combined with tedious mazes and trudging back and forth through emptiness killed my enjoyment of the game. There are flashes of brilliance here, and those who stick with the game all the way to its conclusion will be suitably rewarded, but those flashes just aren't enough to save The Omega Stone.

Une comète menace de s’écraser sur la planète bleue et seule la puissance de la Pierre Oméga serait susceptible de la désintégrer avant qu’elle n’atteigne l’atmosphère terrestre. Pour s’emparer de cette Pierre, il faut d’abord récupérer 6 disques d’or éparpillés parmi les sites historiques mondiaux les plus célèbres. Ces artefacts constitueront le sésame pour accéder à la Pierre. Voici la trame de départ du jeu, le scénario n’étant en fait qu’un prétexte pour visiter le globe.

But overall, The Omega Stone’s puzzles are absorbing and intricate. A moonlit cemetery harbors stones with markings paralleling those seen in ancient texts. How you correlate these stones to manuscripts you find about alchemy and how you use materials such as crystal. sulfur, and mercury will determine whether you save the world or not. Oh, and did I mention that you can be incinerated, blown up, or electrocuted during the game? At least The Omega Stone is an exciting puzzle game, and the ending creatively explains the link between the locales you’ve visited. Despite Stone’s imperfections, this nicely improved sequel is worth digging up.

Riddle of the Sphinx had issues at the time of its release, such as outdated graphics, a clunky interface, and a focus on disconnected puzzles. I had hoped that, if a sequel was ever attempted, a few key aspects of the game would be brought back to the drawing board. Fortunately, with The Omega Stone, developer Omni Adventures has done just that. The graphics and interface are vastly improved and the puzzles more organically connected to the game world; the game as a whole is far more compelling. If the thought of exploring some of our world’s most famous ruins and mysteries interests you, I encourage you to give The Omega Stone: Riddle of the Sphinx II a try.

As it stands, The Omega Stone has dozens of hours of exploration and puzzle solving. The game, being sold now for less than $30 USD, is cheap for the number of gaming hours offered. However, unless you are a devout puzzle fan or a masochistic gamer, I would advise everyone to stay away from this game. Go spend a few hours watching the Discovery channel instead.

Es ist durchaus nicht alles an 'The Omega Stone' schlecht. Die Story ist recht spannend und es gibt einige saftige Rätsel - auch wenn einige davon einfach schon zu saftig sind. Es bleibt bei mir letztendlich jedoch leider ein eher negativer Nachgeschmack, denn vor allem die Steuerung kann einem ziemlich den Spielspaß verderben. Wer allerdings auf Logikrätsel steht und über die offensichtlichen Schwächen von 'The Omega Stone' weitestgehend hinwegsehen kann, der möge sich das Spiel mal ansehen.

While I had a hard time recommending the first Riddle of the Sphinx game, purely based on the game's age, I can't say the same about its sequel. The Omega Stone has not aged gracefully in any way, and I can't see this game being wonderful back in 2003 either. A player would still have to deal with the dark environment issues and the difficult puzzles back then too.

If you happen to be of the adventure gaming persuasion, undoubtedly you have a feeling of deja vu upon reading that encapsulated promotion of The Omega Stone. For good reason—it is a blatantly derivative game, a cliché of a cliché if you will. So what's the lowdown on this perplexing puzzler? Is it more akin to a favorite pair of comfortable old shoes or a bottle of Sominex disguised as a game? A little of both, unfortunately.

Je met quand même quelques points pour la modélisation des décors qui, si elle est mauvaise, a quand même du demander un certain boulot, et aussi pour les commentaires au dos de la jaquette, à mourir de rire. Petit exemple : «Une bande originale variée, qui met en valeur la spiritualité particulière de chaque environnement ». Yo.
