Adventure Zone
Podsumowując... Outcast to niesamowite, arcy-grywalne, piękne, ogromne dzieło, które łączy w sobie elementy gry przygodowej i zręcznościowej. Efekt jest piorunujący!!! Jest to chyba moja ulubiona gra. POLECAM.

Let me admit to two things right up front, Intrepid Reader. First, I am an action moron. I have learned that I have absolutely no interest in shooting, combat, weapons, etc. Those aspects of a games simply do not interest me. Therefore, please keep in mind that this is the review of an adventure player, not an action player. Second, I've lost any sense of objectivity with this game. I just loved it.

I don't usually play action/adventures. But after reading so many good things about Outcast, and how it was more adventure/action than action/adventure, I decided to give it a try. Besides, it had a god mode - a nice durable one that doesn't have to be reentered at the beginning of every level. I've been told that you don't need god mode for this game - that you can just run away from enemies most of the time. But I didn't find this to be true. Besides, I'm such a bad shot with a weapon that it is quicker and easier to use god mode and pummel my enemies to death with my fists than spend a lot of time wasting ammo. I know this isn't the correct way to play the game, but I enjoyed it.

In retrospect, Outcast has the potential to be the Star Wars of computer gaming (heck, the credits at the end of the manual are at least as long as many movies!). The stage has been set; the universe well-defined. Kudos to Appeal for infusing their game with such intricate details and memorable scenery. If Infogrames's marketing department is astute enough to release some Cutter Slade action figures, comic books, etc., there would be a built-in fan base who would clamor for a sequel. They have already released a hilarious television commercial in France that would be a huge hit if it were translated for an English-speaking audience. It would be a shame to let such a lush, rich gaming experience wither and fade away into the setting sun of Adelphia.

Outcast is an excellent mix of action and adventure, boasting an excellent combat and movement system and great replay value. The game should keep you entertained for many hours straight until you have finally completed it, and the wonderful music plus speech immerses you into the world as you wonder what event your next action will trigger. The voxels are used to their full potential, displaying some beautiful (and some dull) outdoor environments, making the whole world look far more alive than polygons could ever be capable of doing. There are flaws, but I just cannot think of any right now. The only person to whom I would not recommend buying this are those who have a 'thing' against voxels, and those who despise action or adventure games.

But despite these few flaws, Outcast is still one of the best games I've played this year. It's innovative, immersive, and ambitious, and that's more than you can say for most games these days.

It's an adventure game... it doesn't require a 3D accelerator...it's good! Somebody pinch me, I must be dreaming!

Vierter Tag: Vor lauter Namen schwirrt mir der Kopf. Wer ist Shamaz Keb? Was ist Eluee?

But while it can be frustrating at times, Outcast is mostly just fun. It belongs to that older breed of action-adventure hybrids; while it plays more like Tomb Raider, its spirit is more in line with Adeline's Twinsen games. Ultimately it presents you with a huge world to explore and an interesting history to learn, and doing so is an incredibly enjoyable experience.

IGN
By combining movie quality art design, acting, plot and character development, and sound with a smooth action based engine, the company seems to have found a way to deliver all the impact of the best adventure games while keeping more casual gamers with sporadic bursts of frantic activity. Unfortunately, even though the game and its story development is nearly flawless, Outcast's actual graphics are so bad as to cause eye pain. Let's take a quick look at the good and bad behind this revolutionary release.

Coming on the heels of reviewing System Shock 2, a game that I feel all gamers should at least take a crack at, Outcast presented me with the challenge of playing a game that could be shoehorned into the same genre of SS2 but consisted of an entirely different style of gameplay. I’m not referring to the fact that Outcast is best played in third-person, but that it feels . . . well, for lack of better terms, foreign. Not that I think that is necessarily bad or anything, it just took me quite awhile to get into the game, what with the thick spread of local lingo and all of the chatting. The action also seemed to lack a little. Nonetheless, Outcast is a good game, and this kind of immersive gaming is just starting to build an audience. Give Outcast a try, it may be right up your alley, and then again, it may not.

Quandary
It can be a dangerous thing going back and replaying a favourite game (indeed revisiting any favourite activity); you run the risk of it not living up to your recollection for a whole range of reasons. Outcast, though, did not disappoint and confirmed my opinion of it as a classic. It shows what can be done when adventuring aspects are fused with an action component, and it should truly satisfy most action/adventure fans. You don't need a pad and pen and puzzles aren't the name of the game, but I know people who have played in God Mode simply for the depth and level of questing and cultural exploration that is involved. High praise indeed and certainly a classic.

Adventure Classic Gaming
There are 4 recognized subgenres of adventure games—graphic adventure, puzzle adventure, horror adventure, and action adventure. Each subgenre offers a different mix of gameplay and challenges to the players. Despite this diversity, there has been a steady decline in the number of adventure titles being published. This situation is worsened by the over saturation of other genre games in the current market. Many industry critics are beginning to believe that the adventure genre is dying.

Game Revolution
Outcast almost reaches a high point for action-adventures, but falls short thanks to a lot of wasted time. Still, the ending cues up for an obvious sequel. Drop the voxels, forget the little pointless quests, make sure to tip those dudes in Moscow well, and next time we may have one hell of a memorable game. Until then, only the hardcore need apply.
