Does the world need another 3d shooter? In this case, yes. Outlaws incorporates the gun slinging action of a western and the story of a good movie. The stylized art and realistic gameplay make Outlaws a blast to play and also gives you the feeling of being the lead in an interesting movie.

Outlaws is one of the best reworkings of the first-person shooter type of game to hit the market since DOOM. The inclusion of a story line that is pertinent to the action portion of the game is a welcome addition to the genre. Sound and video are tight, and gameplay is varied by having two storyline options to follow. Complete with multiplayer options, this is one well thought-out title.

Although Outlaws is not a new ground-breaking first-person shooter, it has the merits to offer good game play, enough action to make any hero run out of breath, decent graphics and an absolutely brilliant soundtrack. If you want to experience what was the time of the lonesome heroes of the Far West, get your tickets because Outlaws will send you right in!

To reiterate: The buffet at the Badass Western Computer Gaming table is slim pickins 'ceptin one game. Outlaws is it, pardner - the main stick, the top gun, the most complete and faithful Old West shooter in the industry to date. The bad guys in western cliches are always givin' you 'til sundown, but don't be surprised if you find yourself playing this one 'til sunrise.

It does its fair share of innovating on the usual themes and devices within the game, and there is a lot to like about it. If you liked Dark Forces, you should especially consider Outlaws as they are quite similar. The same can be said if you like westerns -- there really isn't another game out there with a western theme, and I found a game set in the old West to be quite a refreshing change from the usual futuristic settings full of bizarre creatures and weapons. In Outlaws there is you and there are the bad guys, and the offenses for which you are out for blood are very clearly delineated, so there is not the slaughter-fest feel of a Doom or Duke-style game where after a while you begin to feel you've signed up for an extended tour of duty in a shooting gallery. I don't think that Outlaws will be remembered as a classic game that breaks the mold for this genre, but in all fairness, I'm not sure that's possible any more in the first-person arena.

If you were to cast a cursory glance at Outlaws it would be all too easy to snort with derision. Believe me - all you have to do is play it for a while and you'll find it hard to tear yourself away. Check it out.

For a long time, Outlaws was the only Western-themed shooter, and the only one there needed to be. Its gameplay, while not too dissimilar to its competition, was sharp and enjoyable. It didn't cover all the classic Western moments, but enough to be respectable. It had LucasArts' traditionally high production values and a fantastic score. Its only real mistake was entering a saturated genre at a time when there were simply too many options to be noticed, and arguably not doing enough to be more than a standard FPS with a Western theme.

Outlaws steckt auch Leute an, die mit Western nicht viel am Hut haben. Die gründe dafür sind eine spannend erzählte Hintergrundgeschichte, das sehr abwechslungsreiche Gameplay und eine Spielatmospähre von unglaublicher Dichte.

Outlaws war damals ein Novum und auch heute noch ist er einer der ganz wenigen Westernshooter und trotz absoluter grafischer Schwächen auch heute noch empfehlenswert.

Overall, it would be a surprise if any of the upcoming games based on Duke Nukem 3D's Build engine were as good as Outlaws. Every 3D game should show as much thought in level and multiplayer design, proving once again that it's the gameplay, stupid. We don't need no stinkin' polygons or true 3D - we need fewer stinkin' designs.

Outlawsia ei oikeastaan voi suositella kuin pahimmille westernien ystäville. Villin Lännen pelejä ei viime aikoina ole pahemmin ilmestynyt ja Outlawsissa ainakin herkutellaan kliseillä koko rahan edestä. Hyvät idea kantavat hetken, mutta ennen pitkää alkaa tuntua siltä kuin tekijöiden ideat olisivat loppuneet kesken ja peli olisi vain tyrkätty pois käsistä. Toivottavasti Outlawsin mainiot ideat pultataan moderniin 3D-engineen, mielenkiintoisilla tasoilla terästettyinä.

Outlaws ist kein Titel, der den hohen Ansprüchen von eingefleischten Fans der modernen Shootergeneration gerecht werden kann, einfach weil die technischen Mittel, die heute bei der Entwicklung von Games zur Verfügung stehen, die damaligen um ein Vielfaches überflügelt haben. Wer allerdings gerne mal wieder einen unterhaltsamen, mit viel (Baller-)Spaß gespickten, richtig guten Ausflug an die Wurzeln unserer heutigen High-Tech-Shooter machen möchte und ein liebevolles Auge für die Ergebnisse damaliger Mühen und Aufwände mitbringt, dem sei dieses Game an sein warmes Herz gelegt.

Marshal Anderson reitet melancholisch in die Abenddämmerung hinein: Die Dark-Forces-Engine ist veraltet, die Grafik zu langsam, die Gegner zu pixelig, die Waffen zu ähnlich. Nach oben und unten kann man nur begrenzt schauen, die Steuerung ist ziemlich ungenau. Spielspaß-Neuland tut sich auch nicht auf, denn statt Westernromantik wird Herumballern pur geboten.

LucasArts hasn't sullied its reputation with Outlaws, but it has, not for the first time, shown that it's not infallible. The other most recent examples of this, Dark Forces and Afterlife, proved that perhaps the company that made its name with graphic adventures Monkey Island, Fate of Atlantis and space shoot 'em up X-Wing, should stick to what it's good at.
