It’s not the most ambitious game ever, but All-Stars can become oddly addictive. I only wish there was a tactical difference between the Pacs. Furthermore, the game’s title is false advertising. I mean, how can you have Pac-Man All-Stars without Super Pac-Man?
IGN (Jun 11, 2002)
If Infogrames were to take out the silly storyline and simply make it a level based, how-far-can-you-go type game, this could have been quite similar to many classic arcade games. I could have seen children running over to the machine and wasting away mom and dad's hard earned cash. Those days are over and the days of in-depth, action oriented, and visually impressive games have arrived.

I, for one, am not complaining.

This game isn't that bad, it just has no real staying power. If you keep it on your hard drive long enough to beat it there is really no reason to play again. After getting through the first set of levels you have seen them all. Even if you are a really huge fan of Pac Man I would still advise waiting for this one to go on sale.
In the end, Pac-Man All-Stars feels like some goofy little game you might download for free on the Internet and play for a couple of minutes. It certainly isn't worthy of the Pac-Man legacy. Even the lackluster Ms. Pac-Man: Quest for the Golden Maze (also developed by Creature Labs) is a better choice for Pac-Maniacs looking for a modern fix.
PC Zone (Jun 01, 2002)
I remember Pac-Man. I also remember Ms Pac-Man and Jr Pac-Man, but for the life of me I can't recall a game featuring Prof Pac-Man, although apparently it was a general knowledge 'hit' back in 1983. If that doesn't sound sacrilegious enough then how about a 'game' that puts all four of these characters together, takes one of the central tenets of Pac-Man, 'eating pills', does away with the other, the maze, and wraps it up in a shell that I wouldn't blow if I found it on a desert island. It's quite an achievement to take a game from 22 years ago and make it worse, but that's what Infogrames has done here. Abysmal.
