Painkiller: Hell and Damnation is about as barebones FPS as you can get. There are no frills, just design choices that reward skill and dedication. It's a splash of cold water to the sweaty face that has become the muddled world of the modern shooter, and pleasingly pedestrian in a way that brings out a sense of carnal rage while demanding one thing from the player: the desire to annihilate. You'll find yourself giving into that desire, happily and frequently. Good on Nordic Games for bringing back a viable property that, much like Serious Sam, is the poster child for frenetic bloodbaths in the world of shooters.

Painkiller Hell & Damnation is an old school shooter with a new coat of polish. The main game is only short, but there are plenty of multiplayer options to keep players interested once they finish the story. The game is coming to PS3 and Xbox360 in January, but for now can be found for around £17.99 on PC, making it a bit of a bargain. Pick it up if you fancy some hellish retro fun.

While the game is true to its roots the game just doesn't hold up compared to other remade FPS games like Serious Sam.

I still want more Painkiller. I don't just mean playing through all of the levels again, but I wanted more enemies, larger levels, more epic bosses. That's not to suggest I wasn't satisfied, it was just that I didn't want the experience to end, and that speaks well of The Farm 51's ability to recreate the fun of old-school shooters. Hopefully we'll see more work from this young developer with even more blood, guts, and heavy metal.

Das Know-How wäre mit mehreren Ex-People Can Fly bei The Farm 51 bestimmt da gewesen.

I really cannot recommend this game to anyone but those of you who really, really, liked the original. So basically, if you are a hardcore Painkiller fan, and are just looking for a single-player experience (since everything else is, hopefully only momentarily, broken), then perhaps you might enjoy Painkiller: Hell and Damnation. Everyone else: save your money.
