The pace of the game is very fast and is over pretty quickly. It should take six, seven hours at most to complete. It should also be known that the end of the game, the final conclusion, isn’t the best thing about the game. The ending really could have used some additional excitement. Nearly the entire game is on Skull Island, but when King Kong is taken to New York City at the end, you’d expect some action going on there. There is some destruction Kong is able to inflict on the city, but not nearly what you’d think.

For a game with one of the most ridiculously long-winded name this year, Peter Jackson’s King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie also has one of the most enjoyable if short-lived gameplay experiences. The game is practically a work of art, but that may not be enough for everyone.

King Kong easily represents one of the better film-to-game translations released in recent years. This is a tightly delivered adventure with barely a dull moment, and the ability to play as two such wildly different protagonists as Jack Driscoll and King Kong is a real treat. It's just too bad that the two characters' respective sections weren't more evenly balanced, and that the game ends so soon and with a final level that feels tacked on. It's also disappointing that the PC version of the game looks so much like the Xbox version, and that to get it to look more like the 360 version, you have to be running the PC of the gods. But those problems aside, this is a game that immerses fully you in a quality adventure, the likes of which will probably make you want to see Peter Jackson's film all the more. It's the thing that so many licensed games shoot for, and so few achieve. King Kong hits the mark, and hits it fierce.

Some gamers may balk at King Kong’s linearity and short length (eight hours at most). And I’m in agreement with other curmudgeons who tire of seeing every freaking movie turned into a game these days. But this one’s the exception: It’s a smart, expertly made little thriller. Don’t be too snobby to pick it up.

Despite the shortness and a handful of scripting errors, Peter Jackson's King Kong is in many ways a huge step forward in level design and presentation, it's beautiful and, most importantly, it's fun.
Maximum PC
Unless you’ve seen the movie, the game doesn’t do a good job of conveying the narrative. The game’s biggest pitfall is its inability to capture the emotional connection between Kong and Ann that really comes through in the film. The jungle’s beauty and awe-inspiring spectacle are all present and accounted for, but the story lacks heart.
And yet, is King Kong worth playing? The answer is Yes! Even if it's short and relatively easy, Ubisoft has managed to create an atmosphere that will be imprinted on your brain once you start going through the first puzzles and fight the first monsters. This is probably the third time I'm saying this, but Ubisoft has created such an interesting universe that now I really want to see King Kong 2 or Adventures in Skull Island, when - and if - they'll decide to develop such titles. I don't know what Ubisoft has in store for this franchise, but this game really deserves a sequel.
Also, Peter Jackson entrusted the game to Ubisoft instead of EA this time around. The question is: Did Ubi do a better job? From Peter Jackson's point of view, they did. From a gamer's point of view... not really. This is yet another movie-based game that offers next to no replay value and is extremely short. But, like I said before, the game will scare you when you play as a human character and when you're Kong you get to battle huge monsters in a captivating action-packed Jackson-flavored ambiance.
In the end, King Kong comes off as an uneven experience, but one with plenty of invigorating moments that make the whole thing feel worth it. You're ultimately left with the feeling that it was a bit rushed, however, which makes you wonder what the game would have been like had it the proper time to germinate. I won't hesitate to say, however, that during its best moments, it's certainly one of the most exciting and engrossing games I've played in a long time. It's just unfortunate that the apparent cut corners take the wind out of its sails sometimes. That said, it's certainly worth experiencing, though if you're concerned about length, know that Kong is fairly short. Consider this when making the "rent or buy" decision.
Worth Playing
On the whole, Peter Jackson's King Kong was rather good and has set standards for immersion that will most undoubtedly be implemented into forthcoming games. The graphics were amazing, and the story unfolded in a quick, action-packed manner. While playing as Kong was a bit too simplistic and the gameplay length was disappointing, King Kong was a good title, although it could have done with a little more fleshing out.
