IT'S THE AGE OLD tale of boy meets gun, boy hears about terrorists / nazis / bad guys operating in a foreign land (with rather nasty plans for the good old US of A, of course), boy takes gun for a sortie behind enemy lines, gun does all the talking. There's nothing interesting or new in the story - but that's ok, there never is. Just be sure that there is one (of a sort) and it's nicely presented with cut scenes that use the graphics engine to great effect. Neat, but not groundbreaking.

IGI-2 offers some intense stealth and tactical gameplay that spans authentic real-world locales and believable situations that could be taken from today’s headlines. You are truly one man against an army, and this game does a fantastic job of creating an atmosphere where the tension can be cut with a combat knife.

Yes the levels are large, yes the AI is very impressive - guards manage to run and set alarms off before you can even get a shot off - but the problem is, is that it doesn’t bring anything new to the genre. Unfortunately in this genre that has been dominated by the likes of Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid anything new can’t just be good, it has to be bloody impressive and unfortunately Project IGI 2 is good but not special.

I.G.I 2 gefällt mir persönlich weitaus besser als etwa Unreal 2.

In closing, I must say I've really enjoyed playing IGI2: Covert Strike. It offers plenty of single-player gameplay hours, as well as a fully functional multiplayer mode, which doesn't bring anything radically new, but it's fun to try nonetheless. Essentially, the sneaker shooter gameplay is a lot of fun. You can literally spend days on this game, which is a good enough reason to shell out some of your cash for it. IGI2 represents a solid sequel that in many ways improves on the original concept. It rarely happens that a sequel outperforms the original, so I think the team at Innerloop deserves credit for their hard work.

IGI is an organization created to make sure that the western world is protected. From whatever angle may come, whether that be from other nations or independent terrorists. Missions are completed covertly when possible, with force when necessary. David Jones is an IGI agent. One adept at killing quietly and completing very tricky assignments efficiently with as little mess as can be helped. At the beginning of IGI 2, you find yourself infiltrating a mountain base in order to recover EMP technology that could be extraordinarily bad in the wrong hands. As the game progresses, you'll realize things are quite a bit trickier than originally thought. Time for some good old fashioned killing for vengeance and a little bit of fun.

Tapps, tapps, tapps, dann
Alarm Heul-Heul. Nur ich
sitze ganz still vor dem
Monitor – denn es ist teilweise schon sehr
spannend, in I.G.I. 2 heil durch die Levels zu
kommen.
an keiner Stelle: Es sieht viel unspektakulärer
aus, außerdem sind die Missionen langweiliger
aufgebaut. Die Levels sind fast alle
riesig, nur habe ich davon beinahe nichts,
denn ich krabble meist auf ziemlich linearen
Wegen dem Ziel entgegen. Fazit: eine Empfehlung
nur für hart gesottene Schleich-Fans.

Codemasters has picked up Innerloop’s sequel to Project: I’m Going In, IGI: 2 Covert Strike, from Eidos Interactive. In IGI2, you take control of David Jones, an ex-army man recruited by the Institute for Geotactical Intelligence (IGI). IGI is a group of trained warriors, founded by Pat Lenehan. You have to prove yourself to be among the best of the best.

When the first IGI came out a couple years ago, it featured some really cool, innovative concepts. However, lousy AI and monotonous level design plagued the game. Now, IGI 2: Covert Strike has hit store shelves. While the game does feature some nice improvements over its predecessor, it can’t really compete with the much better action titles out there.

Despite a few minor glitches, a fairly high level of difficulty, and sometimes frustrating AI, IGI 2 is a solid release in the stealth shooter market. Although it may not appeal to all fans of the genre, it does a decent job of what it set out to do: to deliver a compelling storyline and engaging sequence of events to hold the interest of the player. There are no real complaints about the quality of graphics or sound, and the noted improvements over the original make great additions to the game. IGI 2 may not be the best stealth game to date, but it definitely isn't the worst. For those with an interest in the stealth action genre, IGI 2: Covert Strike certainly will not disappoint.

I think the games real failing is it doesn't satisfy as either a great stealth game or a great action game. The result is a fairly decent but flawed piece of entertainment though. As I said at the start it is a crowded marketplace out there and a title like No One Lives Forever 2 can be vastly more entertaining and fun. If you've already bought that and played through most of the other titles out there IGI2 is worth a look. If you are unsure, the single player demo which was graciously released along side the game rather than months after it, gives you a very good taste of what the full product will bring. So is IGI 2 good? Yes and no. It is a mix of the good, the bad, and the ugly.

It stands to reason then, that if you liked the original, you'll love this. It's more of the same, but bigger, bolder and more intense. There's a great game hidden away inside, but only if you're prepared to put some serious time into playing it.

The original Project IGI was cursed with probably the worst name ever seen in gaming (except perhaps that old PC Engine game, Bonk). It was also cursed with some pretty poor AI and basic gameplay flaws, not to mention a difficulty level straight from Satan's bowels, but it definitely had something. It may have been that it hinted at something better, it may have been that there were some real moments of quality or it may have been that it received a fair amount of hype but it sold quite well and some people didn't think it was crap.

Sometimes a mediocre game can seem worse than an outright dud. When you're playing an obviously terrible game, you can usually put it safely aside and move on to something better. But mediocre games like Innerloop Studios' IGI 2: Covert Strike trick you into thinking that there might be something great just around the corner, only to repeatedly disappoint you. The previous game, Project IGI, was an above-average shooter when it was released in 2000, despite some serious shortcomings. But things have changed since then--more-sophisticated and more-stylish action games such as Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, No One Lives Forever 2, and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell have raised the bar for action games. Yet Innerloop has slid under it with IGI 2, which is a shooter that might have seemed exciting if it had been released in 2000, but is mostly forgettable now.

Just Adventure
The game has many frustrating bugs like this, even with the patch, it is still buggy. If you were looking for an adventurous game, the only adventure you are going to get is an adventure in headaches. However, if you can handle minor bugs and remember to use everything that looks useable, this game might be up your alley. At least this game has good voice acting.

Game Revolution
Sometimes you have to wonder aloud exactly how and/or why a marginal game gets a sequel. It makes sense when they sell like hotcakes or have an enormous, dedicated following, but what about when they're just a mediocre game to begin with?
