Raw Data is hands down the best shooting experience to come to VR in its life so far. I loved the gameplay in the single player element and can’t get enough of the multiplayer. The inclusion of classes brings a new aspect to the genre and adds replayability, and as long as the developers keep up with new content for the multiplayer and the communities sticks with it this will be the VR game that everyone talks about when bringing up the pros of the technology.
While one mode is a bit technically spotty, that becomes immaterial when the entire package is brought into focus. Raw Data is absolutely the game that every VR owner should play. It has humor, scares and a metric crap ton of cool ways to blow things up, all with some major replay power to keep headset on and sweaty. It just feels great to play and looks sharp while doing it. Raw Data will convince people of what virtual reality can do and stands as the best overall title for the medium.
Overall Raw Data is excellent VR game in nearly every aspect. Sure, you may find VR games that look slightly better or perhaps have tighter core mechanics. What you won’t find; however, is a flawed package. Raw Data is as good as it gets when it comes to VR games. Granted, it is a wave shooter and there are tons of them, but Raw Data is the reason why there are so many. One of the firsts to the market, yet still one of the best. Don’t let a saturated wave shooter market put you off, Raw Data is clearly one of the best out there.
Raw Data has been on the horizon for a long time, and I’m glad it’s finally ready to show off everything it does so well. It’s an unapologetically fun VR experience. It’s good looking, fun to play, and the multiplayer mode is almost worth the price of admission alone.
I very much enjoyed my time with the single player, and very much look forward to diving back into the PvP. It may have been a long time coming, but I’m happy to say that Raw Data was worth the wait.
Despite first releasing all the way back in July 2016, Raw Data stands above the many, many wave shooters that have succeeded it, with lavish production values, plentiful play options and the stylish blockbuster action that many of us envisioned when first putting on a VR headset. That said, the game never shatters the ominous glass ceiling of this restrictive genre; it’s an absolute masterclass in what makes wave-based combat tick, but just as much a case study for its limitations. Not quite the ultimate VR experience, then, but a pretty good starting point.
Eigentlich perforiert man nur eine Gegnerwelle nach der anderen, doch in der virtuellen Realität wird das zum herausragenden Erlebnis.
