Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc

Rayman 3 is indeed an excellent title. Sure, it may not be as revolutionary as Rayman 2, but it's still a damn fine game. There's a long adventure with lots to do and even some unlockables, should you go through the game trying to collect everything. The story is well done, the control is quite good, the graphics and sound are topnotch, and the game manages to be funny, too. Being a game heavily reliant on control, one might be better off picking up a console version of the game, but don't hesitate to get this version instead. It's one of the best platforming titles in recent years.

Rayman 3 parvient à renouveler la série pour lui donner un aspect plus mûr (certains diront mature même si plusieurs blagues volent clairement en dessous de la ceinture...) qui lui convient à merveille. S'appuyant sur un gameplay sans faille et une réalisation irréprochable, le titre devient sans difficulté la nouvelle référence du genre.

Ich weiß genau, was Sie sich jetzt denken: "Ach, das ist doch Kinderkacke. Ich will Doom 3, Alter!" Doch damit tun Sie dem französischen Hüpfer Unrecht, liebe Leser! Rayman 3 steckt voller abgefahrener Ideen, spaßiger Rätsel und ist eigentlich mehr Action-Adventure als Jump & Run. Wer sich von der bunten Optik nicht abschrecken lässt, bekommt ein wirklich tolles Spiel für sein Geld. Und für nicht mal 30 Euro ist der Knaller echt fast geschenkt. Glauben Sie mir. Ich hasse Kinder, Haustiere, Mangas, Anime und all diesen neumodischen Weichlings-Kram! Doch ich fand Rayman schon 1995 cool und das hat sich bis heute nicht geändert. Klare Kaufempfehlung!

Besides this tiny "flaw", the third Rayman game has completely fulfilled our expectations. The development team didn't say "Let's make a couple of new levels and rush up the graphics and call it a day"; they obviously took on developing this game with a strong will to introduce as many novelties as possible, in order to preserve the spirit of the game without disappointing the fans. This is why I was also happy to find out on the official forums these days that the fourth sequel is already being planed!

Der Blondschopf wächst mir auch in Rayman 3 rasch wieder ans Spielerherz. Mit geschickten Sprung-, Kampf- und Flugmanövern kann man stellenweise fast schon durch die Levels tanzen. Eine Augenpracht ist die Grafik: Die mag technisch nicht der letzte Schrei sein, aber die tollen Texturen und schrägen Landschaften sehen meist erstklassig aus. Dazu kommen viele originelle Spielideen – da fällt es mir oft schwer, das Gamepad aus der Hand zu legen. Gelegentlich hätte ich selbiges fast in die Ecke gefeuert, etwa wenn Kameraperspektive, Kampfsteuerung und Speichersystem sich verschwören und ich einen kompletten Abschnitt zum drittenmal absolvieren muss. Insgesamt macht das Programm jedoch so viel Spaß, dass ich es Fans des Vorgängers ans Herz lege.

Platformgames zijn dun gezaaid op pc, maar Rayman 3 bewijst dat dit niets hoeft af te doen aan de kwaliteiten ervan. Prima!

Platformers are few and far between on the PC, good ones even more so. Rayman 3 is a fantastic addition to the catalog and one that's sure to please most fans of the series. The slight emphasis on action and the tighter design may tend to dissuade a few die-hards from trying this one out, but they're only going to be hurting themselves if they discount the title because it doesn't follow the same pattern as Rayman 2.

To sum things up, Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc is an excellent 3D platformer. Though the game is rich with extracurricular features, the main quest proves to be a little too short, and the game doesn't provide quite the same level of satisfaction as its predecessor. Ultimately, Rayman 3 probably isn't the mind-blowing follow-up that fans of Rayman 2 were hoping for. What Rayman 3 does is re-create much of the same lighthearted whimsy that made Rayman 2 so incredibly enjoyable, while differentiating the action enough for the game to stand up on its own.

Plus qu'une surprise, c'est une bombe. Rayman nous revient plus beau, plus adulte, plus intéressant et totalement hilarant. Adieu la niaiserie des précédents volets, l'univers et les personnages ont énormément gagné en profondeur. L'humour du jeu est devenu décapant et actuel : il fait mouche à tous les coups. Par-dessus tout, on ne passe pas 10 minutes sans tomber sur une vraie trouvaille de gameplay. Unique regret : la caméra n'est pas toujours là où elle devrait être. Rien d'impardonnable, d'autant qu'on peut la recadrer manuellement. A part ça, Rayman 3 est brillant.

Rayman 3 is a hog when it comes to install space. The minimum install is 670 megs while the full install is 1.7 gigabytes. For that space, you get a game that is entertaining and frustrating because the environmental rules change within the same maps. You can walk to the edge on one bridge, but do it on another and you’ll fall off. The game does sport some inconsistencies, but does have a lush, rich look.

Von Plattform zu Plattform springen, Klettergerüste erklimmen, Gegner sanft ins Jenseits schicken - das klassische Jump & Run ist rar geworden - nicht nur auf dem PC. Hüpfheld Rayman sorgt dafür, dass das Genre nicht vollständig ausstirbt, und rettet mit bemerkenswerter Hartnäckigkeit alle paar Jahre die Welt. Im dritten Teil hangeln, rennen, springen und schießen Sie sich durch neun Areale, die sich in unterschiedlich viele Zwischenlevels aufteilen: Zauberwälder, Sümpfe, Wüstenlandschaften, Höhlen und Maschinenwelten. Am Ende wartet der Turm der Bösewichte, der so genannten Hoodlums, auf Rayman.

Nachdem ich eher auf dem Gebiet Rollenspiele und Strategie angesiedelt bin, war ich nicht so begeistert dieses Review zu machen. Doch nach einiger Zeit freundete ich mit dem Spiel an und es machte mir sogar richtigen Spaß mit Rayman, Globox und Co. die fiesen Hoodlums zu vermöbeln. Die Grafik stimmt, die Sounduntermalung passt dazu und ist nicht eintönig, die Steuerung simpel und der Spielspass groß. Fortgeschrittenen Spielern wird es aber zu leicht sein da man den Schwierigkeitsmodus nicht einstellen kann. Dennoch bietet Rayman alles was das Zockerherz begehrt.
