If you've never played Rayman before, this game is a treat. It's also very "kid safe", meaning there's no blood or excessive violence. In fact, it's quite fairy tale in nature. If the low resolution graphics don't put you off, you'll enjoy both the old game and new levels. If you own the original game and loved it, you will appreciate the new levels and editor. If you found the first Rayman to be difficult, then the new levels are probably more challenge than you're looking for. Bottom Line: Wonderful animation, inventive gameplay. A refreshing addition to the platform arcade genre and still lots of fun to play. Completely kid safe, no gore or extreme violence at all. Graphics are older-looking low resolution. New levels are all quite difficult, some easier ones would have been appreciated. A few control issues exist.

This is not a bad action side-scroller, despite its somewhat outmoded graphics, and the ability to create and share your own levels adds substantially to the play value. But there are games out there today with a lot more innovative, exciting, and spine-tingling features than this one. So if you're one of the million or so fans of the original Rayman, don't pass this one up; otherwise, hold your horses.

Rayman Gold is quite good value if you're a fan of platform games and intend to stick with it. Personally, I prefer Earthworm Jim - he's armed, cheap at half the price and excellent for baiting small birds.
