In single or multiplayer, Return to Castle Wolfenstein is a masterpiece. I guarantee this first person shooter will not disappoint. It earns a perfect 5 GiN Gem score, because once you start playing, you won't stop until you have practically single handedly won World War II.

To conclude then, whilst Return to Castle Wolfenstein does not innovate greatly in the gameplay department; it does execute the balance of plot, action and progression to perfection. Not only that, but the richness of the world is nothing short of awe-inspiring too – all of which combines to make Return to Castle Wolfenstein an essential purchase.

Overall, Return to Castle Wolfenstein is one of the best games we've seen this year even though it isn't like the original anymore. I've only got one more thing to say : go out and buy it !

In a weird inversion of the typical shooter model, Return to Castle Wolfenstein features an amazing multiplayer component coupled with a good if somewhat underwhelming single-player game. Then again, fans of id Software's previous 3D shooters should be familiar with this model. But honestly, Return to Castle Wolfenstein is well worth buying for the multiplayer game alone, so the fact that you get a solid single-player game in the box can only be considered a bonus.

Hade Return To Castle Wolfenstein förlitat sig helt på sin singelspelarupplevelse så hade det hamnat lite i skymundan jämfört med senare titlar som No One Lives Forever, och äldre storheter som Unreal och inte minst det alltid lika fantasikittlande Half-Life. Den njutbara grafiken, de underbara animationerna och framför allt multiplayerspelet gör dock att spelet helt rättvist kan ta en plats bland de allra största aktörerna på FPS-himlen. Det här spelet körs redan för fullt ute i etern, och Counter-Strike har fått sig en ordentlig rival i popularitetstävlingen.

Singleplay goed herspeelbaar en multiplay gewoon top. Net niet zo spannend als Max Payne. Veel waar voor je geld, want eigenlijk twee topgames in één.

Gray Matter didn’t take any mind-blowing new steps in the world of first-person-shooter creation. Instead, it took the core aspects of every good shooter, and made them great. By the time you finish this game, you’ll be eager to go back for more, and at a harder difficulty level (there are three). Wolf is money well-spent, and I recommend it to any gamer.

Well, this is defenitely one of the greatest games that came out in 2001. The sequel to the original 3D shooter Wolfenstein, this game is up to the par of what gamers should expect. My suggestion: get it now.

La vuelta de un clásico es siempre motivo de máxima expectación, y por supuesto en este caso ha sido más que evidente. Es por eso que la prueba de fuego, una vez lanzado el juego, alcanza temperaturas más calientes de lo normal, siempre dentro de un mundo, el del videojuego, tremendamente emocional y capaz de provocar en un jugador momentos de éxtasis o bien tremendas decepciones. RTCW es sin lugar a dudas un juegazo, así de claro, pero no una obra maestra tal y como algunos podíamos esperar, porque en verdad aspiraba a ese trono.

You'll need a powerful PC to get the best out of it, and even then, you can complete it over a weekend. But while it lasts, it's a blinding romp and will make you wish your great granddad was still around so you could ask him how many zombies he notched up during the Big One.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein ist ein atmosphärisch und spielerisch sehr dichter Shooter, der trotz Ansiedelung im zweiten Weltkrieg die typischen Weltkriegsshooterklischees umkurvt und dafür mit einer trashigen Story und echtem Shootergameplay überzeugt.

There weren't very many games that we were looking forward to playing quite as much as Return to Castle Wolfenstein. After getting the chance to play the multiplayer beta along with everyone else on the Internet, we all quickly became horribly addicted and were salivating at a chance for some more action. When we got the chance to play a little of the single player action and a couple more of the multiplayer maps at an event for the game, it just reinforced our excitement. So when we finally went and got our hands on a copy of the game, I got the game handed to me and I tore the box open, peed on myself and rubbed the jewel case all over my body for a little while. After calming down a little bit and taking a shower, I finally got to sitting down long enough to play the game and found myself in a pretty solid single player game and an incredibly fun and horribly addicting multiplayer game.

Ganze 9 Jahre nach der Veröffentlichung des ersten 3D-Shooter namens "Wolfenstein 3D" von Apogee Software, an das sich wahrscheinlich gar nicht mehr alle von euch erinnern können, bekommen wir nun die eigentliche Fortsetzung "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" von Activision präsentiert.

Die Erwartungen an Return to Castle Wolfenstein waren genauso hoch wie der Spaß, den wir beim Testen hatten: Der fesselnde Ego-Shooter ist ein Action-Highlight des Jahres!

Auf den ersten Blick scheint bei diesem id-Shooter alles zu stimmen. Knisternde Fackeln an den Gemäuerwänden, das finstere Grunzen der Zombies und sanft wiegende Spinnenweben an den Decken sind ein Fest für Auge und Ohr. Nur: Automatisch schließende Türen oder fummelige Schalterorgien nehmen viel Tempo aus dem sonst erfreulich rasanten Shooter. Besonders gut gefällt mir dafür der Multiplayer-Modus. Die Level sind nahezu perfekt ausbalanciert und machen ab zehn oder mehr Spielern eine Riesengaudi. Wenn Sie sich für teambasierte Online-Titel begeistern, sollten Sie einen Blick auf diese deutsche Version werfen.

Hoewel niet meteen de meest originele shooter ooit, is RTCW toch een waardige opvolger van een absolute classic!

En somme Wolfenstein fait un retour sur PC avec de nouveaux arguments qui devraient séduire pas mal de joueurs. Sa campagne solo est remarquable mais on saluera également un mode multijoueur qui lui confèrera un intérêt tout particulier et une excellente durée de vie. Le tout est remarquablement mis en valeur par une réalisation impeccable offrant à ce titre un réalisme parfois saisissant.

The only thing that could have made this game better would be to have spent a little more time tweaking the AI and to lengthen the single player campaign. The AI was good, just not great. Taking several pages from NOLF was a smart idea, both in the AI and level designs. Both experiences, single and multiplayer, are rewarding ones, though it seems that Nerve Software has done a better job at creating fun gameplay than Gray Matter. Despite some of its aforementioned drawbacks, Return to Castle Wolfenstein is a gotta-have-it game. Many will buy it for the multiplayer experience, and with good reason. But a nice little (though a bit too "old-style" - Ed) single-player campaign is awaiting when your connection goes bad.

Se on näyttävän näköinen, mutta mikäpä uutuusräiskintä ei olisi? Natsit ovat vastustajina tietysti tavallista kiinnostavampia, mutta niitäkin on miedonnettu esimerkiksi korvaamalla alkuperäisestä Wolfensteinista tuttu saksankielinen puheenparsi tyhmällä saksalaisittan murretulla englannilla.Return to Castle Wolfensteinilla on kuitenkin yksi pelastava enkeli, nimittäin moninpeli. Sen tiukka sotameininki tekee jo yksinään pelistä hankkimisen arvoisen.

Singelspelardelen är både spännande och omväxlande, med ett roligt och någorlunda vettigt motstånd. De olika uppdragen kräver allt från blixtsnabba reflexer till eftertänksamhet à la Metal Gear Solid. Däremot är jag som ni märker mindre nöjd med flerspelardelen. Lite enklare banor och framför allt fler spelsätt hade varit välkommet. Om man sedan betänker att nästan alla spelmoment redan finns representerade i gratismods så försvinner lite av strålglansen från Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Det är fortfarande ett bra spel, men när det gäller nätverksspel håller jag mig även fortsättningsvis till kungen Unreal Tournament.

“Return to Castle Wolfenstein” ist sicher eines der am hitzigsten diskutierten Projekte des Winters 2001/2002. Der Nachfolger des von id-Software entwickelten Shooter-Klassikers „Wolfenstein 3D“ bekam aufgrund der prekären Rechtslage eine, in der Story abgeänderte, deutsche Version spendiert. In dieser kämpft man anstatt gegen Nazis gegen eine ominöse Sekte namens „Wölfe“, die versucht Tote wieder zum Leben zu erwecken und Superkrieger zu erschaffen.

My first impression of this title was formed about eighteen months ago when I saw two screenshots. One showed off a grunt who was standing by a rock wall; the other, a Nazi in a leather jacket. What stood out most profoundly from those early images were the textures: rarely had rock looked so, well, rocky, nor had I seen leather so cracked and aged. The impulse buyer that lives deep within me said: "Shiny candy! Me have get for self!" and the battle for my game dollar was over without a shot being fired.

But in all, Return to Castle Wolfenstein is not what it could have been. As a story it's utterly bizarre, as a sequel it's sub-par, but as a stand-alone game it's very good. The simple truth is that regardless of the detractions, killing Nazis will always be fun...always. There are few times that you can play a game and feel you made the world a better place. Wolfenstein 3D was one of those times. If the world isn't any better after playing Return to Castle Wolfenstein, at least it might brighten your day.

Many years ago a small company called id software created a 3D game called Wolfenstein 3D, which we now know took the world by storm. Stemming from this success they went on to create 2 of the best well-known series in the gaming industry, namely Doom and Quake.
