Revenge of the Titans is a nearly perfect game. It will annihilate all of your free time for as long as you're consumed by it. It will also make you want to punch your screen at least once. If you missed out on the opportunity to get it in the Humble Bundle, you can get the game on Steam for $14.99, or check the official website for special deals. Either way, it's worth your time, money, and occasional frustration.

A testament to the range of the strategy genre, Revenge of the Titans is a perfect evolution of the tension and tactical gameplay of tower defence alongside the micromanagement and quick thinking RTS trappings. A shining example of indie innovation.

Revenge of the Titans is what you get when you inject some real indie love into a tired genre - style, innovation, experimentation and instant playability. Some may find themselves frustrated with a customization approach that leaves room for epic failures, but most will find the open-ended nature of it all quite refreshing.

I’m hooked!

Its testament to the strength of Revenge of the Titan’s the I enjoyed it despite having played a lot of tower defence games recently. It has a few original ideas, but it is also so well executed that its well worth the relatively low price point. Building turrets is often fun, but in Revenge of the Titans the sheer scale of the chaos on screen makes it more than just enjoyable, its essential.

While mainstream strategy largely continues to gnaw upon the desiccated husk of Command & Conquer, and so much indie strategy simply slaps new graphics on tower defence mechanics, Revenge of the Titans is, apparently quite effortlessly, doing its own thing.

PC Gamer UK (May 05, 2011)
It’s simple, well executed and, so long as you’re not bothered by a little trial and error with your research, good fun.

If you’re a fan of tower defense games and like the retro-minimalist art style evident in the screenshots you’ll be in gamer heaven with Revenge of the Titans. The fact that Puppy Games was willing to include RotT in the Humble Indie Bundle #2, and was generous enough to release the source code when enough funds were generated by the project, is enough for me to continue support their efforts.

Revenge of the Titans does a lot of clever stuff within the tower defense genre, emulating the same rules-based gameplay that made the genre popular while adding new complications. But it is also let down by the flaws that plague the genre -- the snowball effect of mistakes, the necessity to plan and build for specialized enemies at the cost of overall effectiveness. The upgrade system also leaves a lot to be desired. Tower defense purists will adore the challenges of perfecting build orders and planning three levels in advance, but the sharp difficulty curve and poor upgrade system prevent it from having mass appeal.
