To sum things up, the interface is intuitive, the graphics are good, the multimedia adds another dimension to the game, and I just can't find anything I didn't like about the game. I found so much more in this game than I had expected, and hope that Sierra makes more quality games like it. While it may not find as wide an audience and is not as long-lasting a classic as genre-setters like Civilization, Doom, and SimCity, this is an excellent game. It is the best of its kind that I have played and I give it a 92. This game grabs you and does not let go, and it deserves every single point it gets. If you want to find yourself pulled into a different era, faced with both the small and large-scale challenges of the Confederation, battling with both brawn and brains, this is the game for you. Even if you aren't sure if that describes you, buy this game anyway. You will like it. Very much.
With multiplayer network/modem support and cool Super VGA graphics, Robert E. Lee: Civil War General is a wonderful old-school wargame. It's a rebel yell for turn-based historical gaming.
Robert E. Lee was one of the most respected figures of the Civil War. Admired by both friend and foe, he demonstrated his tactical brilliance on numerous occasions. Frequently outnumbered by the Union forces, he managed to confuse, confound, and frustrate the Union generals that faced him on the battlefield. Robert E. Lee: Civil War General gives you the opportunity to duplicate his accomplishments. Can you do as well…or perhaps even do him one better?
Computer Gaming World (CGW)
ROBERT E. LEE has the most entertaining Civil War campaign, but it isn't up to the superb BATTLEGROUND: SHILOH as a recreation of Civil War combat (keep in mind that Talonsoft needed some time to home its craft as well.) It also has some curious omissions in terms of battles and isn't as fully realized as RIFLES.

World Village (Gamer's Zone)
This game represents to me a mid-range Civil War game. By mid-range, I mean it is not overly complicated, yet isn't too simple. It achieves a balance between getting so involved in the rules that one loses sight of the object of the game. At the same time, it isn't so simple as to insult the intelligence of a player. This would be an excellent choice for the casual war gamer, but advanced ones should give it a careful once over before purchasing.
