RollerCoaster Tycoon has to be one of the best games out on the et right now because of its concentration on fun and good design. Not only do the awesome graphics and sounds make the game great, but also the ability to design in an unlimited number of ways really makes this game fun and addictive. The bottom line is that this game is for just about everyone, and especially for those people who love strategy and design.

The mass appeal of Rollercoaster Tycoon is undeniable. It's simple enough for a casual gamer to toy around with, yet has enough depth to keep the more hardcore geek glued to the screen. It's hard to describe just how fun this game is. I've simply been having a blast. Pick it up, and you won't put it down. Highly recommended.
Game industry News (GiN)
I found this game to be most addictive, challenging and as much fun as I thought it would be watching the demo in the store. I am pleased to give Rollercoaster Tycoon 5 GiN gems.

“Addictive” might be an overused word, but the concept applies to this game; you cannot help but be drawn into the fun of amusement park construction, and you never want to quit because there is always some little tweak you want to add to make your custom park just a little bit better. The sense of utter fulfillment when you finish a complicated twisting and turning rollercoaster and watch people gleefully riding on it is hard to describe. In the end, the atmosphere of real playfulness associated with all aspects of the design is the key to RollerCoaster Tycoon’s truly smashing success.
Computer Games Magazine
Overall, RollerCoaster Tycoon is the most purely entertaining strategy game in ages, one that's virtually guaranteed to put a smile on the face of even the most jaded gamer. It's a wildly exuberant game that reminds us that fun is an honorable goal for any entertainment medium, even one as "serious" as a strategy game.
Roller Coaster Tycoon is an awesome game from top to bottom. It would have been nice to have a completely open ended mode (not scenario based), and the ride design aspect could have been a bit easier to use, but other than those nitpicky details, the game shines through and through. The little details in the graphics and sound make it a joy to play, and the amount of control you have over your park makes this game a must have for obsessive fans of simulations like Sim City. Roller Coaster Tycoon takes the ball from Theme Park and really runs with it, extending the amusement park simulation idea in a variety of ways. The online ride database and constant updates on the official website are the icing on the cake, adding great value to an already fantastic product. RCT could be a sleeper hit this year, and that's why it earns our "Editor's Choice" award.

RollerCoaster Tycoon has the potential to capture a pretty good niche market - and for the most part, it succeeds.

But once you do figure out how to build a roller coaster, you'll realize that nothing you're likely to do any of these SimCity-type games is likely to be more fun. You'll get a lot of pride out of designing some crazy, twisting corkscrew that winds in and out of lakes and hot dog stands, painting it bright neon pink and orange, and giving it a name like the Vominator. And then when the kids start lining up for those $5 tickets, you'll be ready to start saving up for your next ridiculous extravaganza. Roller Coaster Tycoon is, quite simply, a lot of fun.

Still, ROLLERCOASTER TYCOON is so dang eager to please, with so many great touches, it’s impossible not to like. The first time you see the little patrons whooping with glee after exiting a coaster that you’ve built, or applauding you when you win a scenario, you’ll feel it was all worth It. Even watching queasy patrons vomit brings a certain, twisted satisfaction; you feel this world you’ve created is alive. It’s not the most macho strategy game around, but ROLLERCOASTER TYCOON is a great little thrill ride—well worth the price of admission.

Rollercoaster Tycoon is extremely impressive. This one is great for strategy fans, SimCity lovers, and anyone hoping to produce the next Disneyland. Great work from Sawyer and the team.

One complaint: Sim-people are idiots. Guests run around in a blind panic when presented with an open courtyard and mechanics visit every ride except the one needing repair. In any event, RT is a ride you won't want to stop.

All Game Guide
The concept of gameplay is easy to pick up, thanks to the handy icon interface bar at the top of the screen. This enables you to control and adjust everything you can see and hear. The sprite-based graphics are detailed with glorious colors, although the realistic wooden scaffolding effect on most of the rides dominates most of the views. Still, the realism and micro-management of your park makes RollerCoaster Tycoon much more addictive and fun than similar theme park or business simulations. Because you get to control the rides, facilities and overall appeal of the park as well as accommodate factors such as temperature, weather and financial constraints, it is an enjoyable and challenging game.
I started with the demo of this game and loved it. I'm heavily into sim games, and this one was really neat because it was more than just plunking down the rides; you could design your own. Unfortunately, the limited demo didn't really get far into ride design, and what it did allow wasn't too difficult or confusing. That's unfortunate because the game beyond the demo levels is difficult and the ride construction can be very confusing. I assumed what information wasn't forthcoming in the demo would also be in the game's manual, but it isn't. In short: this game should have been great, but ended up being so frustrating that I didn't even finish it through all the scenarios before I got fed up.
