The Saboteur may lack the polish of the contemporaries it boldly mimics, but protagonist Sean Devlin’s quest for revenge and an alluring 1940s Paris make this a World War II memory worth making.
If you saw any of the early promotional trailers for this game, you may remember a clip that was cut to the svelte tones of Nina Simone, as she sung Feeling Good. Well, that track has been included here - along with several other excellent jazz numbers that play whenever you enter a vehicle. The thing is, that song was recorded in 1965 - over 20 years after World War II ended. It's inclusion makes no sense at all, and yet the tune itself is a perfect match for the tone of the game. It's this winning contradiction, more than a pair of polygon breasts, that truly sums up The Saboteur. Pandemic Studios may be no more, but at least we can say that the boys went out on a high note.

The Saboteur is a charming mess. Yes, the unpolished gameplay can be frustrating and, yes, the storytelling can be silly. But as soon as we drove through the gorgeously stylized Paris – then jumped out of our nitro-fueled racecar to snap a unsuspecting Nazi’s neck – we didn’t care anymore. For us, the good overwhelmed the bad.

The only thing more played out more than WWII is perhaps open-world action. Nevertheless, both conventions are overused for a reason: they have great video game potential. In the case of The Saboteur, they combine to provide for a compelling if uninventive experience. Working in concert, this game's tired, uninspired mechanics still manage to get the job done; the whole is definitely more than the sum of its parts. If you're looking for a truly unique experience, this game isn't for you. However, if you love WWII or open-world action games, The Saboteur is a gorgeous title that somehow manages to remain fun from beginning to end.

The Saboteur rust op erg sterke fundamenten.

As a swan song for developer Pandemic, which closed its doors just before the game’s release, The Saboteur is a fitting, yet flawed tribute to a prolific developer. The Saboteur won’t take up your time like some of this year’s top games, but it does serve as a worthy diversion in between games. Viva La Resistance!
The Saboteur doesn’t reinvent the genre. Instead, it tells a new story in arguably overused period of history, and adds a different take on how to present open world gaming without losing immersion. Also, by freeing itself from the literal history of WW2, Saboteur feels less stuffy, and is able to tell its tale more openly. A little more polish would have really delivered all that The Saboteur promised.
Imperium Gier
Strategy Informer
The Saboteur can be both addictive and engaging, but also rather stale, all at the same time. Serious issues such as the nature of a resistance campaign, terror tactics, victory at all costs, etc... are fairly buried underneath the game's lighter tones. Still, it's in line with Pandemic's other works so it's not like you should expect a moral masterpiece. If you want to put in the effort, than the rinse/repeat actions won't seem as boring as they should be. It's good to see that Pandemic's last game has some decent production values,(Although there are still some trademark glitches to be seen), but unfortunately the lack of proper post-release support could mean that any annoying bugs could be there to stay. Pick it up if you're looking for some destructo-derby fun, and don't mind a bit of travel.

The Saboteur, then: not half as bad as the limp first few hours suggest. It's perhaps not the greatest company epitaph in the world but, as Devlin might say, while throwing himself out of a speeding car, knocking back a slug o' the good stuff and mashing a Nazi's head in with one punch: "It coulda been a lot worse."
Game Shark
It's a shame that Pandemic is no more, as The Saboteur is a worthy effort marred by lackluster gameplay design and wonky controls. As it is, nothing really separates it and makes it unique. Despite the cool setting, this is by the numbers game design that you’ve played a million times before.
The Saboteur was a great concept in an interesting historical period that's deeply broken by bad history, technical issues and poor gameplay choices. It's sad to see the resistance movement as trigger-happy, drunken one-man army, which could shut down the Nazi regime armed with just a Luger pistol. It's even sadder to play a game that it seems even the developer didn't really care much about.
