A spokes person for Telltale Games informed us that twenty of Telltale’s approximately thirty employees were employed at LucasArts at one point or another. Dan Connors and Kevin Bruner, the company’s (Telltale not LucasArts) founders, were involved with Sam & Max Freelance Police and they left LucasArts after the cancellation to start their own company. Company bios on the entire Telltale team can be found at their website team page. I encourage you to check it out.

Eine 9er-Wertung bei nur 90 Minuten Spielzeit? Ist das nicht etwas zu hoch? Nein, absolut nicht. Warum?

Armchair Empire, The (Feb 12, 2007)
If you’ve enjoyed the first two episodes of Sam and Max’s capers, then Sam & Max: The Mole, the Mob and the Meatball will be just as pleasurable to play, although be forewarned this is the shortest of the three so far. The ending leads perfectly into the next episode, as Sam and Max gamers head over the hump sliding downward to the season finale in just a few short months. Once again this is an adventure in rib-tickling hilarity, although déjà vu is starting to set in as far as in regards to where the Sam and Max adventures take place.
Gameslave UK (Jan 27, 2007)
The third instalment of the first series is Sam & Max: The Mob, the Mole, and the Meatball will provide you with about an hour and a half of the most colourful, lunatic and accessible point-'n-click adventuring there is. It is actually this simple, uncluttered approach to the genre that provides both the greatest strengths, and most noticeable weaknesses of the game.
PC Action (Mar 26, 2007)
Mit The Mole, the Mob and the Meatball hat Telltale Games die für mich bisher beste Episode produziert.
Gamer 2.0 (Feb 20, 2007)
Recurring themes in each episode and Telltale’s ability to tie the installments together instill a certain progressive feel. And really, buying the whole package is the main aim here, because one episode is never sufficient. Should you buy the whole thing (and you’ll probably find yourself doing anyway to see what happens), you’ll find yourself paying the same as a full-priced game, thus making your decision to indulge in Telltale’s series an important one to consider. Are you willing to be there for the long haul? It’s perfectly easy to buy one episode and write off the rest, though this is fraught with, “should I get the next?” And if you like adventures, you really should. Based on the quality of the three we’ve played, Telltale is hitting the right notes. If they can find enough substance for the continuing chapters we’ll continue to advocate their creations. Valve and Ritual, follow Telltale’s lead.
PC Powerplay (Feb, 2007)
PC Games (Germany) (May 10, 2007)
Und was soll man sagen?
GameDaily (Jan 24, 2007)
Similar to previous episodes, players download The Mole, The Mob and the Meatball through GameTap's subscription service. Sam & Max make a great distraction from lengthier, more complex games, supplemented by an animated cartoon series (also broadcast through GameTap) and web comic. So, players can enjoy as much out-of-game content as found in-game. It certainly helps to fill in the time while fans eagerly wait for the release of the next episode.
HonestGamers (Jan 27, 2007)
Most of the elements of this game come together in fine form, meaning it's an experience you won't want to miss.
80 (UK) (Jan 25, 2007)
But before this review spirals off into a discussion about episodic limitations, it's important to stress that Sam & Max's latest adventures are immensely enjoyable chunks of entertainment. So few games display such effortless charm, and even fewer are rammed with as much warm humour. On that basis alone, the chance to sit back and be thoroughly entertained for three hours for $8.95 should more than make up for any other reservations you might have about this pioneering experiment.
UOL Jogos (Jan 29, 2007)

Gamernode (Jan 26, 2007)
The visual presentation really fits the game series and the subtle puzzle hints make sure that players won't struggle playing the game. Sam & Max: Season One is shaping up to be what the adventure and episodic games market needs. Episode 3, unfortunately, won't shape up against previous episodes in terms of game time. This time, it'll be around 3-4 hours until the duo cracks the case. But make sure you spend some time exploring all the conversation trees, because there are some colorful gems in the dialogue. Max never ceases to amaze me with his quirky thoughts and whatever else goes on in his insane brain. For the price of a movie ticket, you'll get what you want and some extra laughs. Episode 4: Abe Lincoln Must Die! is set for release on February 22nd on GameTap, and March 9th on Telltale's site.
Defunct Games (Jan 25, 2007)
Make no mistake about it, The Mole, The Mob and the Meatball is a fun ride that is still worth the price of admission. I wish that the adventure could have been a little longer and more difficult, but I still had a lot of fun going through it. If you're looking for a light hearted game that you can just sit and laugh at, then you can't do much better than Sam & Max episode 3. Now that I've seen them go after the mob and show business, I can't wait to see what my favorite freelance crime fighters are going to get wrapped up in next time around. Hopefully I won't have to wait too long.

But I mean, come ON. Those two are the BIGGEST of my complaints. The BIGGEST thing wrong with this game is that it's in 3D, which probably isn't even a problem to people who aren't me. You're really cheating yourself if you're not buying this game. Not even if you're a connoisseur of point-and-click adventure games such as myself—if you're not buying this game (it's only nine bucks!), either off of Telltale's handy dandy Web site or from GameTap, you're missing out on one of the very few genuinely funny videogames out there.
GameZone (Jan 31, 2007)
I wish I could give a higher rating, but this particular episode is just too short and easy. Apparently the first two were longer, hopefully the next ones will feature more content.
GameBoomers (Feb, 2007)
Sam & Max Season 1 – The Mole, the Mob, and the Meatball is aimed at fans of Sam and Max, lovers of the absurd, and Italians with a forgiving sense of humor.
Gamigo (Feb 26, 2007)
Von allen drei bislang veröffentlichten Folgen ist „The Mole, the Mob and the Meatball“ für mich die schlechteste.
FOK!games (Feb 20, 2007)
De derde aflevering van het eerste seizoen, Sam & Max: The Mole, The Mob and the Meatball levert ongeveer anderhalf uur speelplezier op.
GameSpot (Jan 26, 2007)
Now that Telltale is halfway through its "season" of Sam & Max, you've probably already made up your mind about the series. If you played the first two episodes, you should certainly keep on playing, unless the second episode rubbed you the wrong way by reusing so many locations. And if you've held off, or played the first episode and decided it wasn't for you, you could probably keep right on looking in the other direction. The episodic nature of this adventure is starting to hurt it, as each individual episode is short enough for you to finish it in an afternoon at most--and this one feels even shorter than the other two.
Adventure Advocate (Feb 02, 2007)
Αν το "Culture Shock" μοίρασε απλόχερα υποσχέσεις για την αλησμόνητη επιστροφή των αξιαγάπητων χαρακτήρων σε μια ολοκαίνουργια σειρά περιπετειών και το "Situation: Comedy" κέρδισε επάξια την πολυπόθητη πίστωση χρόνου από τους καχύποπτους adventurers, το "The Mole, The Mob and The Meatball" επιβεβαιώνει ότι η Telltale Games, καλώς ή κακώς, γνωρίζει τα όρια της πάρα πολύ καλά.
GameSpy (Jan 25, 2007)
Episodic gaming has long been one of those "great ideas" that no one's been able to pull off. Those days may be coming to an end, because with each installment of this new Sam & Max, Telltale Games is proving that episodic games can work quite well, albeit not flawlessly. Starting today (1/25), Episode 3 can be purchased and downloaded for $8.95 (the game is free with a Gametap subscription) for about 2-3 hours of entertainment. (Players can also order a discounted version of all six episodes in a "Season One" package for $34.95). While the script is the best so far of any of the episodes, Episode 3's abbreviated length makes it less of a bargain than the earlier installments. That being said, the entire Sam & Max experiment is shaping up quite well.
1UP (Jan 29, 2007)
And, once again, the characters and locations feel rather limited. Series regulars Sybil and Bosco return (coincidentally tied up in the Mafia's dealings), and your time gets divided between Sam and Max's usual street block and the Toy Mafia's equally small headquarters and casino. Exploration and variety take a backseat to the constant stream of jokes (an unavoidable trade-off, given the series' episodic nature). Everything else is unmitigated and unapologetic fluff -- the joy is in Sam and Max's wit, after all -- and seasoned adventure gamers might find the game too simple to really sink their teeth into.
GotNext (Jan 25, 2007)
All in all, your enjoyment of The Mole, the Mob and the Meatball is going to rely on a few things. Would tapping your mouse's buttons to get around and interact with a colorful world satisfy you, or would you want something more demanding? Can you chuckle after observing how "One Way" street signs represent the human condition? Are you willing to part with less than $10 bucks of your hard-earned money to have fun for a good three to four hours, or must you buy that $60 blockbuster title instead? You could do a lot worse the money. It won't buy you the best graphics you've ever seen, you won't receive virtual cars to ride around in or open-ended worlds to explore, but you'll get to kick back, relax, and laugh. Now, let me ask you, isn't that a fine way to spend a tenner?
Adventure Gamers (Feb 07, 2007)
So far Season One is not particularly epic or memorable, but still a very good-looking and extremely fun diversion, and faithful to its franchise. But we're all hoping for a bit longer game next time.
68 PC Gaming (Mar 12, 2007)
As I mentioned in my previous review, this is a game which caters specifically to a certain type of gamer, the adventure gamer. I certainly feel that there is enough included in this game to have that gamer return for another round of play. To the less adventure-inclined, Sam and Max will feel more like paying $9 for a movie you are only kinda-sorta interested in. As such, I yet again only recommend this game to serious adventure gamers and hardcore Sam and Max fans. Bearing all of this in mind, I found that Episode 3 was nearly identical to Episode 2 in terms of the experience offered.
IGN (Feb 05, 2007)
While the humor is a bit better, this is definitely the weakest episode in the series owing to its uncomplicated puzzles and short length. Fans of the series will definitely still want to play it, just to soak up every bit of Sam and Max as possible, but the rest of the world probably won't find much point in purchasing and playing this episode separately. Gamers with Gametap subscriptions or the whole season package will definitely appreciate the humor here but the gameplay still leaves a lot to be desired. With the second and third episodes each declining in quality, we hope that the team can inject a little more fun into the series while still keeping up with the monthly schedule.
UltraNinjas (Mar 30, 2007)
It is a shame, and once again puts a question mark on whether the episodic nature of the series is hamstringing Telltale into giving each episode simple, self-contained puzzles. One thing you could never aim at the developer is that they don’t care about the series - especially given the obvious care and attention the game’s aesthetics have been given. Hopefully with a bit of tweaking here and there, a few more new locations and characters and some more tasking puzzles thrown into the mixing bowl the series can avoid getting stuck in some what of a rut when future episodes are released.
Gamekult (Feb 14, 2007)
I must admit that my reaction to Sam & Max Episode 3: The Mole, the Mob, and the Meatball is mixed. Now that we have reached halfway through Season One, it is somewhat worrisome to see that there is very little new content from episode to episode. This raises the question of whether or not the developer’s need to keep up such a tight release schedule is compromising the quality of its titles. A longer and more challenging episode will definitely benefit the series.
