Scarface: The World is Yours

There are a whole lot of little things about Scarface: The World is Yours that make it fun, but it's the sum of its parts that make it the overall great game that it is. It does a whole lot to fix many of the problems with other games in the genre, and it does an absolutely fantastic job of bring the world of Scarface to gamers. While it isn't quite perfect, we won't hesitate for a second to recommend it to action fans everywhere.

Oft sind Spiele, die auf Filmen basieren, eher schlecht bis mittelmäßig. Doch Scarface: The World Is Yours scheint eine Ausnahme zu sein. Schön, dass man nicht nur die Story des Films nachspielen, sondern sich nach dem Fall des Imperiums wieder hocharbeiten muss. Mit einer guten Story, viel Action, einem exzellenten Sound ist Scarface: The World Is Yours ein würdiger GTA-Konkurrent. Zumindest lässt der Titel die „True Crime“-Reihe locker hinter sich. Sehr gelungene Umsetzung, die für über 20 Stunden Spielspaß sorgt!

Endlich kann ich mit meinem liebsten Film-Antihelden Miami aufmischen! Das "Was wäre wenn ...?"-Szenario passt wie der gerollte Dollarschein ins Nasenloch. Gleiches gilt für die Spielwelt. Die ist technisch veraltet, versprüht aber trotzdem das typische 80er-Jahre-Neonlook-Flair des Films. Mein größtes Lob gilt allerdings dem Protagonisten selbst. Dieser virtuelle Tony Montana erweise sich dank exzellentem Sprecher, genialer Körpersprache und seinem unerschöpflichen Schimpfwort-Arsenal ("You're fucked, Motherfucker!") dem Filvorbild als würdig. Da sehe ich über die meisten Schwächen im Spieldesign und die konsoligen Überreste hinweg. Größter Kritikpunkt: Ich kann die Tastatursteuerung nicht frei konfigurieren - und dafür gibt's von mir Punktabzug.

Mir gefällt Scarface besser als GTA, trotz der Mängel. Das auf Konsole zugeschnittene Menü etwa, mit dem Sie Missionen annehmen, Ihren Fahrer rufen, Ihr Eigentum verwalten oder auch mal in die Rolle der von Ihnen verpflichteten Auftragsmörderin wechseln, ist fast so komfortabel zu bedienen und so übersichtlich wie ein Flugzeugcockpit. Und ja, die Grafik fällt stellenweise detailarm aus und verfügt über keine große Sichtweite, sodass Autos auf die Straße teleportieren und man Bäume am Horizont beim Wachsen beobachten kann. Mich entschädigen die Atmosphäre und das Gefühl, es mit einem "erwachsenen Spiel" zu tun zu haben. Außerdem finde ich es gut, dass es nicht mit so viel Tiefgang daherkommt wie GTA. Für mich ist nämlich mehr manchmal weniger.

Não há dúvidas que "Scarface: The World is Yours" é mais um clone de "Grand Theft Auto", mas, ao menos, captou suas qualidades e tratou de aperfeiçoar o que o "original" tinha de defeito. O resultado é um game com ótimas cenas de ação, principalmente de tiroteio, e um enredo e personagens fortes, que tem todo um filme clássico por trás. O game só não é excepcional por não trazer a grandiosidade e a liberdade do clássico da Rockstar e, além de tudo, trata-se de um gênero um tanto batido, ainda que, se feito com qualidade, traga muitas horas de diversão, como é o caso.

Scarface kommt dem typischen GTA-Spielgefühl von allen Klonen vielleicht sogar am nächsten. Die Filmumsetzung spielt sich zuweilen stark wie ein GTA Vice City 2, was auf jeden Fall als Lob aufzufassen ist. Dennoch kann es Scarface in Sachen Langzeitmotivation nicht ganz mit dem großen Vorbild aufnehmen, da auf die Dauer die Missionen zu öde ausfallen und auch das nachgebaute Miami nicht sehr wirklichkeitsnah herüberkommt. Spätestens seit Der Pate sollten die Entwickler wissen, dass eine Stadt in Schlauchform dem Spielspaß mehr als abträglich ist. Trotzdem ist Scarface ein gutes Actionspiel mit interessanter Story und tollem Helden. Letztlich wurde das Spiel nur für die falschen Systeme herausgebracht. Die PS2 bietet Flimmeroptik, auf dem PC lässt sich Tony kaum vernünftig steuern, schade, dass die Entwicklung einer Xbox360-Version eingestellt wurde.

Scarface kan er best mee door voor een filmlicentie game, maar een topper is het niet. Voer voor Scarface-aficionado's!

Der Film hat das Gangster-Genre mitbegründet, die Hiphop-Szene geprägt, die Popkultur beeinflusst. Doch dem Spiel fehlt jeglicher Erfindungsgeist. Tony Montana ist niemand, mit dem man gern ein Bierchen trinken würde. Es gibt Szenen im Film, da rückt ihm die Kamera ganz nah ans Gesicht. Bis die Augen, schwarze, brodelnde Löcher, alles ausfüllen. In solchen Momenten kriegt Tony Stahl in seinen Blick.

Certainly, I wasn't expecting a mind blowing visual package, but in its current state, the game creates the impression of a product assembled under the threat of an unforgiving deadline. The lack of details, a heap of low-resolution textures, a certain sterility in decors rendering, and the exasperating repeatability of car and character models. What's even more staggering, are the recommended system requirements, absolutely necessary in order to rightfully "taste" the entire product. An X800 / 6800 video card for a graphic level already seen two years ago (and I'm being indulgent)? The only positive aspects are the car modeling (comparative with similar titles) and the Al Pacino likeness.

The whole 'thing' about 'Scarface: The World of Yours' may appeal to some gamers (teenagers mostly [ironically]), and the action can get pretty fun at times. On the other hand, the downsides become increasingly apparent as you play on, and are likely to turn away those of you who don't measure the maturity of your games by the amount of gore and macho bullshit contained in them. And, also, those of you who are looking for a bit more creativity in the design department.

Scarface – The World is yours ist enttäuschend und das nicht nur wegen den Bugs und den lahmen Missionen, sondern weil man sich bei den Spielteilen so viel Mühe gab. Viele gute Sprecher, toller Soundtrack, gelungene Zwischensequenzen und eine Story die durchaus ihren Reiz hat. Das Gameplay ist dann eben auf dem PC aber in den Sand gesetzt worden und so kommt auch dank der vielen unglaublichen Bugs kein wirklich großer Spielspaß auf.

On s'attendait tellement à une adaptation indigne de ce nom que Scarface parvient à nous surprendre malgré une version PC qui n'est pas du tout optimisée. Néanmoins, sans prétendre au titre de meilleur GTA-like, le jeu de Radical Entertainment respecte à la lettre les codes du genre en offrant une vaste surface de jeu où vous pourrez laisser votre perversité s'exprimer. Sans atteindre la puissance évocatrice du long-métrage, ne pouvant éviter quelques écueils légitimes (faible qualité graphique, mini-jeu récurrent mal qualibré...), cette incursion dans le monde de Tony Montana a tout de même le mérite de nous confronter une nouvelle fois à une ville tombée sous la coupe du Mal. Reste à savoir si vous souhaiterez l'éradiquer ou en faire partie.

Overall, Scarface: The World Is Yours is more a victim of some poor design choices than any glaring technical issues. The developers accomplished the task of bringing Tony Montana back to life. But by taking the focus off of the gameplay elements that you'd want in an open-city game and putting it more on the game's bland mission design and all the dull side tasks you'll have to do to earn a reputation, Scarface doesn't play to its potential strengths. The end result is a functional game that presents an interesting premise, but underneath you'll find a wholly uninteresting game.

Whether or not participating in delusions of a fallen drug lord will appeal to you depends on who Tony Montana is to you. If, like the restaurant-goers in that famous scene, you point at him and say "That's the bad guy," then helping him reclaim his throne will be of little appeal. If you see him as hopelessly misguided and lost, I assure you, he won't find his way here. But those who admire Scarface the American Dreamer might relish seeing that blood-soaked dream live on as his desires run amok. I fear Radical knows their audience all too well.
