Sonic CD

Sonic CD features the hop-and-bop gameplay you've come to expect, and adds 3D bonus rounds where Sonic races through otherworldly mazes, destroying UFOs to gain time points. Sonic CD also features a CD-quality, QSound-encoded soundtrack, featuring full vocals and sound effects.

Sonic is an all-time classic computer game which, as with Super Mario World and the rest, if you're a serious gamer you should have at least played. At just £30 Sega have made that a pretty attractive proposition - even if for that much money you could probably pick up a Mega Drive and an original copy these days.

Those who have played Sonic on a Sega game system will find nothing new here, and PC gamers who enjoy side-scrollers may be disappointed with the performance of Sonic CD. The repetitive gameplay, combined with a $50 retail price, make Sonic CD a mediocre title at best. Unless you're a true Sonic fanatic, avoid this one.

So what you're going to find in this port of a somewhat classic is a somewhat classically bad port. If you're a die hard Sonic fan, you're probably used to the way these levels are setup up. If not, you may find yourself as I did, frustrated within the first twenty minutes of play.
