SpeedBusters: A good idea on paper that actually turned out to be a very cool game. Many companies have good ideas yet the games always lack in some key area. Speedbusters doesn't follow this trend. Combining an awkward premise, good control and fluid graphics, SpeedBusters should definitely be on the Christmas list for everyone who wants to get paid for breaking the law.

Speedbusters is een LSD-trip op wielen. Race-fans die een beetje zijn uitgekeken op hun oude racespellen, kan ik deze game van harte aanbevelen. Je weet niet wat je ziet.

If you're looking for staunch realism, look elsewhere. But if you're in the mood for a fast-paced arcade racer with a hell of a lot of speed, we reckon Speed Busters'll do you good.

So, it's winner's dinners for Speed Busters. It's an idiot-proof racing game that has you frantically slapping your keyboard for another go, while providing enough variety to keep you interested in the long term. Of course, no one will probably remember it in six months' time, but in the meantime it's 30 quid well spent.

Spricht man von Action-Rennspielen, wird als Vorzeigeprodukt immer noch Need for Speed 3 genannt. Speed Busters ist aber ein Konkurrent, der relativ mühelos an diesem vorbeizieht, trotz des fehlenden adeligen Stammbaums. Wo sonst gibt es so abwechslungsreiche Strecken, so schöne Fahrzeuge und vor allem so viele Möglichkeiten, sie mit Spoilern oder dergleichen zu verändern und das Gesamtkunstwerk dann im Rennen zu betrachten. Auch in N.I.C.E. 2 konnte man seinen Wagen aufrüsten, ohne aber eine grafische Veränderung zu bemerken. Außerdem ist die technische Ausführung und das Streckendesign bei Speed Busters deutlich besser.

Still, Speed Busters is one truly wild, refreshing ride. Fans of arcade racing who have been troubled by the lack of lighthearted, gimmicky, arcade racers on the PC can rejoice at last. Finally - a PC racing game that the PlayStation bums will be salivating over.

Overall, this is fun, nice, and pretty game. Racing fans will love the physics and sheer intensity of the whole game, while those who like good detail in game will get a kick out of it as well. Ubi soft has really done well with this game and it shows in so many areas. The available options and upgrades for the cars made it really fun, while the graphics made it look spectacular. Bottom line - this is game you could play for a while and always having fun.

Samengevat: ben je een fan van vergane chroom, is spitstechnologie niet het belangrijkste voor je en hou je van een racer waar je je wagen kan upgraden, kies dan voor SpeedBusters. Ben je echter eerder een liefhebber van hypermoderne bolides die blinkend over exotische wegen razen....kies dan voor The Need For Speed III.

Bref Speed Busters est un excellent jeu de course, aux graphismes superbes et à l'humour rafraîchissant... Seul point noir : le comportement des voitures est parfois un peu déroutant, mais dans l'ensemble rien à redire!

Speed Busters er et sjovt spil, som på nogle måder er lidt langt ude (jeg har i hvert fald aldrig mødt en T-Rex, når jeg er på tur gennem hovedstaden) men alligevel ret underholdende.

Ett bra spel som kunde gjorts bättre. Ojämnheten sänker betyget.

Speed Busters succeeds very well at what it's designed to do ¿ provide a quick and dirty racing experience that's all about fun and not at all about reality. Better still, it manages to keep you entertained by offering up loads of secret hidden shortcuts, tracks and cars for those who spend enough time with the game. If you've been looking at the recent titles released for cartridge systems longingly, Speed Busters maybe just the game you've been waiting for.

Despite this major shortcoming, though, Speed Busters is great fun. The track design is inventive, the illusion of speed is great, and overall the control is good. And with a few tweaks to the controls or some slightly less hazardous track designs, a sequel could provide to be stiff competition for the Need for Speed series.

Beschwingte Musik untermalt die Betätigung von Gaspedal und Nitro-Booster; besonders ohrwurmig täteräen die Trompeten im Mexiko-Level. Die Grafik ist lebhaft animiert und schön bunt. Speed Busters verströmt mehr Charme und Frohsinn als der aktuelle Konkurrent Test Drive 5. Doch angesichts des Spieldesigns greift der Fahrschulprüfer zum Rotstift. Das spärliche Tante-Emma-Aufrüstangebot wirkt im Vergleich zum Nice-2-Supermarkt ebenso kümmerlich wie die Streckenanzahl. Noch schlimmer: Der Rennverlauf hat einige konfus-unfaire Stellen. So plumpsen einige Zuckerwürfelchen in den Spielspaß-Tank von Speed Busters und verhindern die Pole Position bei den Funracern.

That's the fun difference that makes Speedbusters so special. The cars, landscapes and scenarios are varied and the graphics wonderful, but the sense of fun built into the game is unique. You'll have a fast and furious time with SpeedBusters - but only if you have a competent graphics card. If you've got a puny PC with little video memory, forget it.
