It absolutely re-democratises creativity in this way. As the number of successful total conversions drop in the mod scene, not least due to the effort in making even a single modern-tech model, this opens it right back up again. People can play. Is it worth a fiver? Completely. While it acts like a pre-order incentive, in actual fact, playing the Creature Creator, it absolutely justifies itself. Even if you never plan to play Spore, it's absolutely essential you play this.

Get it! But one warning: If you play Spore Creature Creator, you may suffer from anxiety from the LOOONG wait until Spore is released.
Gaming Target (Jul 11, 2008)
The Creature Creator isn't much more than a marketing tool for the upcoming Spore. Anyone itching to get their hands on the game will certainly enjoy the chance to play with the tools and build and share creatures with like-minded players. They'll be able to build a stable of creatures ready to go on Spore launch day. They'll get the chance to explore all the parts and decide which give the best stats and which work well in combination. They'll also run the risk of getting tired of the game before it actually releases and of ruining some of its surprises. The community is large, though—no surprises there—so the Creature Creator might be the chance for a breakout success.

Little problems aside, Spore: Creature Creator is something everyone with a capable PC or Mac should try out. The demo is available for free and is the same as the full retail product but with far fewer body parts to choose from. For £5 though, which also goes towards the final cost of Spore when it's released in September, the full Creature Creator is well worth owning. We had hours of fun with the demo, and hours more once we had the full thing. If this taster is anything to go by then Spore could well live up to the hype when it hits our solar system in September - questionably shaped creatures included.

The sheer ease of creation makes this editor unlike any other on the market, and the fact that it's going to be so seamlessly intertwined within a full working game makes it that much more amazing and entertaining. Within seconds of starting this editor, a new fully working creation can be roaming around your computer screen.

Making creatures is just the tip of the iceberg, since the full game is due out in September, players will be able to create vehicles, buildings, and other elements of their growing creature civilizations. For $9.99, Spore Creature Creator lets you get a jump on the action. Concocting cool critters is incredibly addictive, and the ability to save any and all of your beasts for future use in the game is pretty awesome. A limited demo version of the creator is also available as a free download from EA's site for those who want to play around to get a feel for the program. Hardcore Spore enthusiasts might want to pick the retail version up ahead of time to have access to the full range of parts to play with.
