Some might even argue that KotOR comes closer to the magic than the two later movies by George Lucas himself.. but that is probably best left up to the gentle readers to decide for their own.

The bottom line? KOTOR is a modern-day masterpiece that will be talked about for years to come. It's not the best-looking RPG ever made, and the early launch of the PC game was plagued by irritating bugs and incompatibilities, but anyone with a yen for roleplaying (and maybe some high-quality Star Wars action) would do well to pick this classic up now.

Game industry News (GiN)
When I was growing up, my friends and I would be the first in line to buy any new games put out by Lucas Arts because we knew they would be a lot of fun. Over the past couple of years, if I was not reviewing the game, I have found myself waiting to see what my fellow reviewers had to say before deciding to go to the store. Playing Knights of the Old Republic reminds me of the good old days when I would be waiting in a long line at the game store. This is the best game that I have played from Lucas Arts, since I don't remember when. Lucas Arts (publisher) and Bioware (developer) have managed to combine an extremely compelling plot with some amazing graphics and an open-ended story line.

As geeky as it sounds, the Star Wars movies have impacted my life greatly. I spent countless hours as a child watching the original trilogy and countless more as a young teen reading the books. When the prequels came out my childhood memories were tainted and I stopped enjoying Star Wars as much as I used to. I would have never imagined that one game could single-handedly revitalize my interest in Star Wars and enthrall me like the original trilogy once did. Bioware’s Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (henceforth KOTOR) is not only the best Star Wars game ever made, but it’s also one of the finest RPGs around for a variety of different reasons.

BioWare has done it again, and made an incredible game that will enchant anyone playing it. Whether you're a Star Wars fan or not, this game will definitely keep you enthralled for hours at a time. The only thing keeping it from a perfect score was the lack of more planets, because in a time where we can play a game as open-ended as Morrowind, we got to have more planets. But it detracts little from the game, and the planets you explore are large enough anyway. You will play this game. You will play it...immune to Jedi mind tricks are you? Well, play it anyway!

Leave it to the wizards at BioWare and LucasArts to join forces and create the ultimate Star Wars role-playing game. After a successful Xbox launch only rivaled by the likes of Halo Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) makes its way to the PC in what is perhaps the best console to PC port in the history of cross-platform conversions.

Worth Playing
Engage in this saga set in the Golden Age of the Republic - over 4,000 years before the first Star Wars film, when both Jedi and Sith number in the thousands. With the Galaxy reeling from a recent conflict with the Dark Lords, the ongoing battle between the Jedi and the Sith rages on. Your actions determine the outcome of this colossal galactic war - and your destiny as a Jedi.

It's very rare for a game to be strong in as many ways as BioWare's Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and refreshing to play one that has found its own style and succeeds. From the brilliantly executed Light vs. Dark approach, to the superb voice acting and rich, immersive worlds, KotOR feels like a tour on a pleasure cruise from start to finish, visiting foreign ports and finding adventure. It is an RPG that now stands with my very favorites, for its own unique reasons. One does not have to be a Star Wars fan to enjoy it, and I would eagerly recommend it to anyone looking for a gaming adventure. It's as much that as it is an RPG, combining the right mix of storytelling, danger and RPG elements. The bottom line: there is enough game here to justify the purchase of the gaming rig that plays it.

Despite all these minor flaws, KotOR remains one of the best RPG’s ever made, and for me it’s definitely the RPG of the year, managing to surpass Gothic 2. After I’m going to finish writing this review, I’m going to fire up the game again, to see what side quests did I miss, what enemies have I left alive and what consequences will my actions have if I choose differently from the first time, knowing how things turned out in the first place. Who says knowing the future is a bad thing? With these being said, the only thing left for me to say to you is that I’m eagerly expecting a multiplayer add on or a full sequel, and that I strongly encourage you to go out, buy the game, and enjoy one of the finest RPG’s ever made. And may the Force by with you.

Overall, KOTOR delivers everything you could ever want to the table. Addicting gameplay with a great storyline is always destined for success, but BioWare added everything else everybody wanted to see in the Star Wars movies and put it here. There is about 60 hours of game here to complete entirely, but add the fact that it has downloadable content via Xbox Live and you are in heaven. This easily is the deepest single player game on the Xbox, even deeper than Morrowind's massively long game. No RPG could possibly come close to the power of KOTOR on the Xbox, none!

FileFactory Games / Gameworld Network
This game virtually screams quality from the moment you open the box. It has a nice spiral bound manual, four CDs that come in a genuine CD case. An excellent, if somewhat limited character creation screen. A wonderful non-predictable storyline, excellent combat scenes, authentic Star Wars sounds and aliens. It's just a grand game all around!

Yet, despite these complaints, I still found Knights of the Old Republic to be a true work of art. Its success on the Xbox was well expected given the severe lack of other RPG options. But on the PC where a gamer has plenty of choices, BioWare's newest game needed to be all the better to attract attention. And while this RPG does not succeed in blowing everything else out of the water, it is still a great deal better than the vast majority of other titles currently available. Any self-respecting PC gamer that has yet to play the Xbox version of this BioWare masterpiece would do themselves well to pick it up.

Game Vortex
I don't think Bioware could have done much better than what they produced in Knights of the Old Republic. The transfer to PC also seems to have gone very well. This shouldn't be surprising as these guys have been creating top notch games for the PC for quite awhile now. I've heard that the game can have some performance issues, but I can't really say anything in this regard since my computer isn't quite up to specs. However, the game is perfectly playable on a system 300mhz below the minimum requirements, assuming you exceed some of the other specifications. Some of the battles get kinda choppy, but this is an RPG, so it's no big deal. Swoop bike racing is rather difficult though (sob).

I was beginning to think that I had a better chance of getting eaten by a shark than seeing another console RPG ported to the PC. With a sleek new user interface, perfect control mapping, and a boost in graphical resolution, Knights feels right at home on the PC. If you haven’t had the chance to play through this game yet, drop this magazine and run out to the store immediately. The level of control that you have over your characters’ actions is truly remarkable. Do you fight the good fight, or turn to the dark side? The game is completely different for both paths and worthy of playing through twice. Combat is brimming with strategies; character development is extensive; and the story is brilliantly penned. Simply put, this is the best thing to happen to Star Wars since the original trilogy.

The legendary movie saga Star Wars has had a legendary number of games attached to it; not all of them good… and some very bad. But every once in a while, a rare Star Wars game filled with originality, adventure, action, and an overall cinematic experience comes along. Before Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR), the pickings for top quality Star Wars RPGs were well… slim to say the least. KOTOR brings to the Star Wars line-up of videogames an awesome and innovative RPG title. In KOTOR you play a Republic soldier who has lost his memory due to an attack on your spaceship, the Endar Spire. Throughout the game you have flashbacks to that fateful encounter; flashbacks that might even hold the key to your true identity. Along the way you will meet many characters that will aid you on your quest, from Jedi to Droids to Wookies. All in all the stage is set for an incredible Star Wars adventure.

The amazingly immersive adventure you are taken through is one that will make you look at the Star Wars videogame series in a new light. If you think of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic as the history behind the Star Wars movies, you will be able to make many connections and think up many possible theories about the story as a whole. And as if this wasn’t enough, there is a history to the history of the Star Wars series. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is simply the best Star Wars game to ever be made, and even after all I have told you, there is still so much to find and discover for yourself.

But, as a whole, KOTOR is an excellent role-playing game. I wasn’t really a fan of either of the first two Neverwinter Nights games, which made me a little pessimistic about the post-Infinity Engine quality of BioWare, but KOTOR puts them right back at the top of the heap. That’s a good thing, especially since some of their competitors have had a rough time of late, and who knows who else might be producing good role-playing games in the future. So if you haven’t played KOTOR yet, and if you like role-playing games at all, go out and get it.

Bioware's awesome RPG Knights of the Old Republic feels right at home on the PC with high-res graphics and an excellent control scheme. While the rather sluggish frame rates, miscellaneous bugs, and lack of any major new content are at the least a bit disappointing, any fans of RPGs or Star Wars would be committing a crime not to give this game a shot. It's an instant classic that only got better on the PC.

ActionTrip
This is not just another run of the mill PC game coughed up by Lucas Arts to profit on the famed Star Wars franchise. A profound storyline, in-depth characterization and dialogue, tons of RPG elements to experiment with, so many side quests that you'd be hard pressed to complete them all and the ability to choose your own destiny and affiliation with the force, makes Knights of the Old Republic an exemplary new chapter of the Star Wars saga, as well as a grand single-player experience that can stand very well on its own. There's plenty to do in the game, most of which is simply impossible to experience the first time around, so it is likely you'll feel the need to come back to the game once you're done, and see how things would turn out if you've made different decisions, or if you wish to simply replay as a different Jedi type as before.

Still with me? Excellent. Now, if you're a gamer that enjoys PC role-playing games, you're probably familiar with BioWare's work, including Dungeons & Dragons gems like Baldur's Gate. Interestingly, a few years ago, BioWare somehow produced not only the reportedly best RPG for the X-Box, but also the best Star Wars product in years: Knights of the Old Republic . That made people understandably excited for the PC port which came out a few months afterwards.

I really enjoyed finishing this game. This game is just awesome, definitely one of the best game released last year. The story is killer. I'm not hardcore Star Wars fan that has seen all the movies multiple times, but the story is probably better than both of the new movies. If you're looking for an RPG with good action and adventure elements, then pick this up as soon as possible. If you're a Star Wars fan then this is a must have.

Christ Centered Game Reviews
In spite of its faults, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is one of the best games I've ever seen or played. Most surprising of all, it is a game that is even better even than the high score I've given it, and a game I suspect will eventually become the stuff of legends in the gaming industry. KOTOR transcends the traditional dungeon crawling RPG experience, making it a must-play even for people who don't like RPGs. And with the game available on the PC, there's no excuse not to get your hands on it.

PC Format (UK)
KOTOR remains, however, an excellent RPG. Don't be put off if you don't like Star Wars, as it goes far beyond Lucas' original vision, offering a strong enough world to appeal to any science fiction fan. Likewise, there's no reason to fear its Xbox origins - while you may occasionally long for extra depth on a mission or perhaps some more involved combat, the rapid pace and dedication to narrative and character will soon have you back hacking away in the thick of the action.

The Games Machine (TGM)
Knights of the Old Republic è un titolo che porta con sè moltissime aspettative.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is the deepest foray yet into the Star Wars universe and well worth the price of admission. Obviously, if you already have the Xbox version, there is no reason to get this one, too. But if you have ever looked across the room at a cold beer and tried to use the Force to bring it to your hand instead of getting up (one of these times I know it’s gonna work), this should be an easy decision. Go out and get it now. Just do it, there is no try.

At this point, you’ve probably read the reviews and played the game, so whatever I write about Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) is pretty much moot – you’ve already made up your mind as to whether KOTOR was worth your money. But for the few that haven’t been exposed to either the Xbox version (released way, way back in the Summer of 2004) or the PC version, I can sum it up with, “Buy it!”

PC Gamer
Knights of the Old Republic is tremendously reverential to the franchise’s lore. Its plot is arguably more satisfying than the ham-fisted narratives of the recent Star Wars films, and it certainly does a better job at conveying moral complexities. While its environments are artificially limited relative to what some other RPGs have done, the game still presents numerous opportunities to roleplay different personalities and re-create many definitive hooks from the movies. It’s an impressive RPG and a great Star Wars experience.

All in all though, despite the bugs, just as it was on the Xbox KOTOR for the PC is one hell of a good game to play. It's fun, it's Star Wars, it's gorgeous, it's long (40+ hours), it has a great story (with cool twists) and is an absolute joy from start to finish. Believe it - Game of the Year. Go and buy it now!

Knights of the Old Republic von Bioware und Lucas Arts ist schon fast DAS perfekte Rollenspiel.

KoToR has surprised me very pleasantly. Recently I’ve also gotten the chance to compare the pc version with the one for Xbox and I can say that the interface and graphics have been nicely ported towards PC standards. KoToR is both for RPG lovers and non-RPG gamers. For the Star Wars freaks this game is a wet dream but also the normal human being (;p) will get to appreciate this game. As you can read above, it isn’t for nothing that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was chosen as Fragland’s PC game of the year 2003. Buy it !

Quandary
Aside from the occasionally too 'Star Warsy' and drawn out dialogue, the shooter-like controls, and a few gratuitous arcade sequences, this is a perfect RPG. The story is well paced, with many plot twists to keep you guessing, and plentiful side quests to keep you occupied and chasing XP for that next level up. So, may the... no, I must resist!

Overall Knights is a great RPG, with just some obvious imperfections that are for the most part easy to ignore. There is a great deal of gameplay to be had, although the pace is slightly slow and there probably isn't a great deal of reward in replaying the game. The PC version clearly trumps the XBox version, with better graphics, better control, new additions and various bug fixes.

It's a testament to the strength of Knights' original design that it manages to be gripping and engaging while in the midst of distracting technical problems. If you have a good PC and can get a patch to fix the crash problems, this version of Knights is a fantastic way to spend your time.

Gamekult
