If it ain't broke, don't fix it—but keep tweaking and re-releasing it until the horse is dead (and while you're at it, block that metaphor!). This latest port from the arcade hit serves up eighteen characters, a few brand new, most familiar and a handful known only to those who unlocked secrets in previous games. Twenty new backgrounds look great, a Custom Combo option lets you design your own special attacks, frame rates are high and the game is priced to move at $29.95. Yes, it's a bit dated, with its completely 2D layout and its silly energy-ball weapon fixation. But it's still scads of fun, perfect for blowing off some steam at the end of a hard day. It also remains one of the only hand-to-hand combat games that a novice can play well on a first try. Okay, so maybe it isn't Van Gogh. Maybe there are some "better" fighting games out there, strictly speaking. And maybe the PC will never really be the right platform for this kind of contest. But who cares? It's great fun anyway.

This game might have some appeal as a way to explore an aspect of gaming from days gone by, but it’s poorly implemented—it actually tried to install DirectX3 on my machine, Nostalgia aside, there are much better fighting games. This game is really nor worth your money unless you are a die-hard STREET FIGHTER Fan.
