Seriously, though, you Xbox owners old enough to buy M-rated games should all go out there and get this bad boy. It's a fairly unique game that will likely keep your interest piqued and a smile on your face right up until the final brain is eaten. You'll be grateful that you did. Just brush your teeth before you thank me. Please.

Does Stubbs the Zombie reinvent the action genre? No but it does reinvent the zombie genre – showing how the undead live – and it’s a fun game filled with a great sense of style and features the best soundtrack this year. Good clean, brain-eating fun!

But the biggest gripe and probably the biggest compliment I can give: I wanted more. Stubbs ends entirely too soon, with a six to eight hour experience that loaves you desperately craving more brains. Of course, you can artificially extend the life of the game by making your own fun—try zombifying every human on each level. Stubbs also possesses an uncanny knack for getting lost (the undead must have a crappy sense of direction or something), as it’s sometimes unclear where you’re supposed to shamble next. Note to developer: Extending game length with frustrating gameplay = bad.

If only the game were longer. The ability to finish Stubbs quickly really cuts into its appeal, though its high production values and addictive gameplay make it a game that's worth playing. It's unique and exciting enough that you should think about adding it to your collection, especially if you decide to wait for a price reduction.

Stubbs the Zombie is an enjoyable game that lets you live out the life of a zombie in a B-grade movie. It isn't without some problems, and it is a bit short, but fans of the genre will find something to like.

Make no mistake, Stubbs is a fun game. It's well built, has a satisfying though limited gameplay style, and cooperative support allows players to really get the most out of this title. The art and sound of the game is very well done, incorporating the style of the 1950s with retro-futuristic laser pistols, flying saucers, and robots. Stubbs is not an epic. It's a game that is great to pick up at any time of the day, eat a few brains, and then move on to something else.

It's a game that is great to pick up at any time of the day, eat a few brains, and then move on to something else. Since there's relatively little plot, there will be little need to explain anything. Think of Stubbs as the equivalent of a cinematic popcorn muncher. It does one thing and it does it really well. If you like zombies or just causing general anarchy in a mindless, humorous kind of way, then this is a title worth picking up. However, be aware that with the PC version you're not getting the cooperative mode that was so fun to play on the Xbox

If you have a better way of spending 40 bucks, then maybe you shouldn't consider spending them on this game. Although Stubbs the Zombie stands as a pleasing deviation from today's genre standards, it still doesn't have enough to engulf players in the long run. It's decent entertainment no doubt, but short of any lasting qualities. A fun and engaging co-op mode would have been enough to increase the game's replay value as well as its overall score.

Mein erster Eindruck: verdammt cool.

In essence, the game mechanics are as rough as a butcher's dog, yet it remains a game that will make you smile, and one that you'll finish - not least because it's so damn short. With the best soundtrack in history (Ben Kweller, Cake, Death Cab For Cutie, The Dandy Warhols, The Flaming Lips et al), and enough dainty '50s lip-gloss applied, despite its cavalcade of issues, there are reasons to play it - but very few reasons to part with your hard-earned cash for it. Certainly not on PC either - Stubbs loves the console, and loves it hard.
