Enfin, côté réalisation, les graphismes sont un peu fouillis mais représentent à merveille la vie sous-marine avec des bancs de poissons qui passent çà et là, des algues qui bougent au grès des courants, ou encore un occasionnel serpent de mer qui viendra visiter vos installations. Les animations sont de bonne qualité, même lors des combats engageant un grand nombre d'unités, et là encore de nombreux détails viennent agrémenter le plaisir de jeu (sillage des torpilles...). La bande son est malheureusement un ton en dessous, et ce malgré les côté dynamique qui fait changer la musique lors des combats et le style new age apaisant des moments calmes. En tout cas, on aura rarement vu un jeu de stratégie avec une ambiance aussi bien rendue.

Hoge resoluties, een aparte, maar geslaagde 3D-omgeving en gigantische multiplayeropties zouden hier wel eens de on line RTS-opvolger van de huidige hit Star Trek Armada van kunnen maken.

Drei Fraktionen kämpfen um Rohstoffe und Territorien, errichten Basen, konstruieren Kampfeinheiten und intrigieren gegen die Widersacher. Was wie eine astreine Neuauflage von StarCraft klingt, könnte sich für genrekundige Spieler tatsächlich als nostalgiegeschwängerter Leckerbissen erweisen. Die Weißen Haie und die Schwarzen Tintenfische sind zwei menschliche Gruppierungen, die in den Ozeanen gegeneinander kämpfen. Die Erdoberfläche ist aufgrund eines Kometeneinschlags unbewohnbar geworden - auf dem Meeresgrund finden sich alle Rohstoffe, die fürs Überleben nötig sind.

Gut geklaut ist halb gewonnen – doch leider eben nur halb. Die Designer von Submarine Titans haben zwar ziemlich frech beim großen Vorbild StarCraft abgekupfert, die Perfektion des Vorbilds jedoch nicht ansatzweise erreicht. Blizzards Meisterwerk ist einfacher zu bedienen, taktisch weit anspruchsvoller und hat die besseren Missionen. Wenn da nicht einige nette Ideen wie die automatische Basisverwaltung wären, könnte man das Unterwasser-Spiel getrost links liegenlassen. So taugt es immerhin für 2D-Strategen, die sonst schon alles haben.

Except many flaws and a dated gameplay concepts, Submarine Titans have some good sides- it is as catchy as Starcraft, the possibilities of gameplay through three races are ample, it has an inventive scenario, and a great animation of background and special effects. The first thing on the flaw list is the speed (slow) of the game. Units sometimes refuse orders (to move from one location to the other) at first, so its necessary to click several times and show the direction. In a crucial moment this flaw can be fatal for the player and his game.

Barring a few minor flaws and one major drawback, Submarine Titans is a good if conventional real-time strategy game. It doesn't break any barriers, but it adds to an already solid concept and is worth taking a look at if you're an RTS fan and you have the patience to bear with a crash or two or 25.

Leider ist die Grundidee so ziemlich das Originellste an einem ansonsten eher mittelmäßigen Titel. Die einfallslosen Massenschlachten passen zu den zähen Missionen und der papierdünnen Story. Angesichts des konventionellen Rohstoffsammelns für den Aufbau riesiger Flotten geht der Spielspaß rasch auf Tauchstation. Immerhin sind die Computer-Assistenten eine eigenständige Insel im Schlick der Durchschnittlichkeit, doch das reicht eben nicht für Wertungs-Höhenflüge.

Also included beyond the campaigns is a skirmish mode, multiplayer and map editor. All very basic with nothing outstanding. Which sums up Submarine Titans. A few years ago a game like this would have done well, the new elements, while commendable, will be overshadowed by other games of the genre that just do it better (meaning more fun). ST will appeal to anyone who has a fascination with the untapped frontier of our ocean depths, but hasn't got much going for it for everyone else.

Despite its seemingly unusual premise, Submarine Titans is a rather conventional 2D real-time strategy game that takes place in an underwater setting. It features three different playable factions and several interesting units and technologies, as well as a complicated and fairly original resource model - and of course, the aquatic setting itself. However, the game's slow pacing, simple combat, weak production values, and other shortcomings collectively prevent Submarine Titans from being much fun.

Сделать хорошую вещь из откровенно слабых компонентов ой как тяжело, но наших братьев-славян из Ellipse Studios сей факт мало беспокоит. Пролетев однажды мимо кассы в recycled bin со своим "морским" Warcraft 2-клоном Ancient Conquest, они не намерены сдаваться: в главном меню ST рядом с кнопками "Campaign" и "Single Battles" был замечен пункт "Add-ons".

Submarine Titans est un petit jeu sans prétention qui ne fait malheureusement pas le poids face aux actuelles références du genre, à commencer par Starcraft et Age of Empires II : The Age of Kings. Doté de faiblesses impardonnables comme une IA et un pathfinder défaillant, ou encore d'une difficulté très mal dosée qui favorise ouvertement l'ordinateur, le jeu déçoit et agace rapidement. Seul l'éditeur de niveaux et éventuellement le mode multijoueurs relancent un peu l'intérêt du jeu.
