Frictionless Insight
I continue to be disappointed at the lack of insult-driven sword fights, and I like LeChuck better as a demon voodoo pirate than as an ally, but the jokes are strong, the puzzles are clever and the game is gosh-darn fun. Certainly, the ending to The Siege of Spinner Cay was abrupt, but it was a cliffhanger for an episodic adventure that is sure to continue to draw in fans while laying the groundwork for another three outings with Guybrush. Everyone should be able to enjoy the latest Tales of Monkey Island episode, but classic adventure fans should get no end of grins revisiting the classic grammar of the LucasArts SCUMM engine, with a little help from LeChuck.

Like the first chunk of Tales of Monkey Island, The Siege of Spinner Cay culminates in a juicy cliffhanger that will leave you craving the next chunk of the adventure. Additionally, Guybrush's reunion with Elaine is short lived, and there's a lot of potential craziness bubbling beneath the surface. We can't wait to see it hopefully erupt next month. Chapter two is a good continuation of the freaky voodoo pirating already laid down in the series.

The Siege of Spinner Cay is a funnier outing, with a cool plot and some great stumper-puzzles. It also continues to ramp up the action, tension and comedy of the series, making it feel a part of something much greater and more epic.
A very satisfying and incredibly funny romp through Threepwood’s twisted world of pirating, this chapter definitely outshines its predecessor. Adventure lovers will be pleased.

The serial nature of the overarching story is also a nice change from the stand-alone episodes in Telltale’s other series, allowing the writers to craft much more effective endings (you’ll never see this one coming). If the upcoming installments can continue this trend, this series could become an even more worthy descendant to the groundbreaking LucasArts collection from which it springs.

We’d hoped the new series would be the start of something good, and in this second episode Telltale has delivered the goods in assured and humorous style. If you haven’t jumped aboard for Tales Of Monkey Island now’s the perfect time to join in.

Overall, the second chapter of Tales of Monkey Island is not as well-rounded as the first chapter, even if the former surpasses the latter in writing.

In the end, is you played the first chapter of the series -- which is pretty much necessary to understand everything that's going on in this game -- you know just what you're getting into: a short, funny, and quirky adventure game with memorable characters and clever puzzles. And for fans of the Monkey Island series, that's just what they're looking for.

The important thing is that The Siege of Spinner Cay represents another pleasantly enjoyable chapter, which fans will enjoy greatly. It might not represent classic Monkey Island in every respect, but there's enough going for it to warrant an instant purchase if you have the slightest hankering for some more from Guybrush and company.
Telltale has another solid outing in this episode, and it's cool to see the story start to come together. Plus, the next episode looks to have a completely cool and unexpected setting, so we're looking forward to seeing where this all goes.
Aimed at fans of classic LucasArts adventures and gamers who enjoy absurd situations and eccentric characters.

Overall, if you liked the first episode, Siege of Spinner Cay is a continuation of the same story. While I did not find the characters to be as interesting or the puzzles to be nearly as innovative, it is the next logical purchase for those wanting to experience the entire franchise. This is a series that is best played through progression. Skipping chapters will leave out key plot elements. For that reason, I suggest picking this up, if only to stay on top of what's going on.
All in all, with the solid writing, decent length for the price, and engrossing (if not overly funny) story, Siege of Spinner Cay is a must for any Monkey Island fan, especially if you've already played the first game and want to see what happens next. I wouldn't recommend this entry to series newcomers, as they'll have little idea what's going on, but Siege really wasn't meant for them. It's a very engrossing adventure game, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Video Game Generation
Content-wise, The Siege of Spinner Cay is a joy from beginning to end and on par with the best Telltale has released to date. Guybrush’s interactions with LeChuck are hilarious, Elaine is featured more prominently, and the puzzles are solid throughout. So in that sense, it feels like the series is starting to really hit its stride, and the last three episodes should be a blast.

It feels like The Siege of Spinner Cay is over just as soon as it begins, though. The adventure seemed shorter than Launch of the Screaming Narwhal, but it's hard to tell if that's accurate, given I spent so much time in the first episode marveling at the return of Guybrush Threepwood. Such giddiness is largely lost once reality has set in and it's apparent our intrepid pirate hero is here to stay. I'm okay with that. The Siege of Spinner Cay has some real brain teasers -- and don't look at hints, they're solvable! -- and like a good LucasArts adventure game of old, it's genuinely funny. I even laughed out loud!
Thunderbolt Games
The Siege of Spinner Cay compared to The Launch of the Screaming Narwhal might be seen as a relatively humdrum entry in the Tales of Monkey Island saga, perhaps because any sense of pleasant surprise or lowered expectations beforehand has now been replaced with hopeful optimism. But regardless of its shortcomings in other areas, the visuals continue to be a delight and the voice acting once again is almost always spot on; the new LeChuck in particular is a highlight. There’s enough good in this episode to make The Siege of Spinner Cay a little bit more than just a mandatory stepping stone to the next chapter. But one can only hope, however, that this isn’t the beginning of a mid-season slump.
