DescriptionTesla: The Weather Man is a puzzle platformer and a humorous take on the "War of the Currents". In the late 1880s there were two competing systems for electric power distribution: the direct current (DC) of Thomas Edison and the alternating current (AC) of Nikola Tesla, backed by George Westinghouse. AC eventually won the struggle, but there was a long-winded campaign by Edison to discourage the use of AC. This game puts a twist on the events by having the player control Nikola Tesla as a superhero to fight Edison's army of DC-powered robots.
Guided by the author Mark Twain through a spirit radio, Tesla needs to complete 29 levels to complete his weather machine and reach Edison. He can be moved around and jump. By collecting pigeons and deploying them with a string, higher areas can be reached and it is possible to float for a while. Tesla gradually unlocks five main powers to progress: lightning, levitation, rain, sun, and snow. There is no limit to their use and the powers need to be used creatively to solve environmental puzzles. Lightning for instance can light dynamite or destroy enemies, levitation is used to stack or remove objects, rain fills holes with water to float on platforms, and so on. The powers are selected from a menu on the left and are controlled through the mouse. Collecting elements is rewarded with research points. In a separate menu these can be spent to research upgrades for the powers, to see farther, or extend the reach of levitation for instance. Later levels require complex combinations of powers to progress.
