Thief (Gold)

Here's the bottom line: Thief took me places I've never been in my gaming experience; it redefines the possibilities of computer gaming, and has forever raised the bar on game excellence. So there.

Thief is one of my personal favorite games of all time. When I first heard about it, I truly didn't think this gold version would offer anything of value. I stand corrected. Thief Gold is one of the worthiest gold products I've ever used, and when you consider all of the new features and combine that with its friendly price, you get pure value. This is a unique product that offers action gamers the chance to use more of their brain than brawn, and it does it ever so eloquently.

The game comes bundled with a few other extras as well, including a short "making of" movie and a level editor, but as polished as the package is there are still a few rough edges. The Dark Engine is a major one—it looked a bit dated even when Thief was first released, and it looks more so now. Additionally, while the three new missions are quite long and well crafted, there are still only three of them. Still, with a street price of $29 and two rebate coupons (a $10 coupon for owners of the original game, and another $10 coupon towards the purchase of the upcoming Thief 2), the game is a good value pretty much across the board. If you never played Thief, then by all means play Thief Gold. If you did play the original - well, at least you know what you are getting into.

3D-Actionfreunde, umdenken: Die Brachialmethode führt bei Dark Project zu nichts. Die langsamere Gangart funktioniert aber so prächtig, daß man schon nach wenigen Minuten leise zwischen den Schatten entlangflitzt. Die drei neuen Levels (inklusive passender Videos) sind genauso spannend wie die ursprünglichen Missionen und verlängern den Spielspaß noch mal ordentlich.
