Auch mit Version 2002 kommt die Golf-Simulation um Superstar Tiger Woods nicht an Microsofts Links 2001 vorbei, aber vor allem grafisch nahe an das Referenzprodukt heran.

Mit einem neuen Entwicklerteam hat EA Sports dem ehemals lahmen Tiger mächtig Beine gemacht. Edle 3D-Grafik und die präzise Mausschwung-Steuerung zeigen der Konkurrenz die Krallen. Die geringe Kursanzahl und ein liebloser Saison-Modus verhindern aber noch die Revierherrschaft. Wer jedoch eine Alternative zum Platzhirsch Links sucht, golft mit Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2002 genau richtig.

The optional control change is cool and the new engine exciting. But, but, but, a player must ask him or herself whether he or she has the system to enjoy Tiger 2002, or is crappy FMV still going to be the preferred bag of tea for avid golfers still running on PIIs and Voodoo 3s? Moreover, can you really invest time in creating new courses and downloading those user-created ones off the net, or are the few pack-ins where it's going to end? Savvy golfers sporting CPU boxes forged by Zeus himself (because he's into computers nowadays) will probably be in heaven, but for the rest of us, despite a wondrous compilation of options, modes, and configurables, and even a new, rather stunning 3D engine, Tiger is just more of the same (a melding of PGA Championship and previous EA efforts), with perhaps a bit less. Crazily enough, this is still pretty darn good.

After all, by next year, PC golf sim fans might not have a lot of options. With the Jack Nicklaus line long gone and the PGA Championship Golf series fading into oblivion, it looks as though the only real choices left are Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2002 and whatever Links bundle, if any, Microsoft decides to put out this year. For what it's worth, EA's latest sim has the goods to keep you occupied at least until the next installment.

Er is dan ook geen twijfel mogelijk over het oordeel van de golffanaten. Dit spel is uitermate geschikt voor de pro's, maar tegelijkertijd zo toegankelijk dat ook de newby's er erg veel plezier aan zullen beleven. En ik? Ik weet nu wat een parr, en bogey en een double bogey is! En dan zeggen ze nog dat je van gamen niets kunt leren!

Met het verdwijnen van de PGA Championship Golf- en Jack Nicklaus-reeksen kan de golfgamer enkel nog terecht bij Microsofts Links en deze grondig onder handen genomen Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2002. Links was altijd al een koploper wat dit genre betrof, maar de laatste Tiger heeft de afstand teruggebracht tot nog maar een heel klein verschil.

All in all TW2002 is a great game for the money. I raise an eyebrow about multiplayer capability. Yes you can play online, but only till March 1,2003. What's that all about? Whatever licensing agreement that is, it’s a first for me. Whatever the case it is available for casual play and is quite fun.
