Time Commando places you in the future, or is it the past? Time flows differently for you in this game when after arriving for your night shift at the Historical Tactical Center, something unthinkable happens. An infiltrator infects the super computer with a virus, which sets off a chain reaction no one thought possible. A rupture in time engulfs the super computer and all who were unlucky enough to be manning the consoles. Playing your favorite computer game you are interrupted by the alarm, signalling a major disaster. Immediately you grab your gear and run to the main computer room. Opening the door you are blinded by the light of the rupture, a pulsating half sphere of energy encapsulating the main computer. Walking closer you touch the rupture and watch it's surface ripple like water, only to be pulled inside!
Stanley Opar is an outstanding technician for the European Federation of military combat-simulation. He is part of SAVE, the Special Action for Virus Elimination. His responsibilities involve the supervision of the computers and keeping them virus free.

If you want a really classy looking beat 'em up with ever changing scenery, four squillion weapons, frenetic action pieces, and a storyline to hold every-thing together, then you'll love Time Commando to bits. But if the designers had leaned more heavily on the Prince Of Persia elements and had connected the 3d stages together with some good old-fashioned viewed from the side mazey, leapy type shenanigans, then Time Commando would have a score somewhere in the nineties.
Power Play (Aug, 1996)
PC Games (Nov, 1996)
Break it all down, and this game is a simple, arcade-style beat-em-up that happens to be beautifully presented, full of variety, and very fun to play. That's more than enough for this brawler - in any time period.

Time Commando is a new star in the PC-action constellation. The graphics are beautiful and the variety of weaponry, backgrounds, settings, and the wonderful enemies will draw you deeply into the game. The game could have probably used another month or so of work to fix some little problems, a little 'minor tweaking' and the addition of gamepad support. Even so, I found myself playing it 'just one more time' late into the night. The revolutionary 'moving camera' works wonders on the feel and appearance of the game and I hope to see it again in the future.

Enough whiz-bang graphics to keep gamers awake into the wee hours of the morning.

Time Commando is one of those love/hate games. I loved the game, and still play it regularly, especially the latter stages such as the Conquistadors and Modern Wars, both of which are filled with a good deal of swashbuckling, cool weapons, and lots of fun and interesting locales. However, there was a big gripe to get over before I got to this point. Once you get over the clumsy movements, the single-direction game flow, and the annoying pixel searches, this game is a lot of fun and looks very nice. This is a fun, beautiful game with flawed execution. Although I want to rate it higher, I have to give it an 81 when I think of all the frustration I had with it and the number of times I considered putting it down, which is something I don't want to see in a game. I want the world to finally pull me away from a game after long hours, not the game to push me away to a more comfortable setting. This could have been a great game, but I can only call it good.

On the Easy setting, any gamer should be able to complete TC in an afternoon. Even on Normal or Hard, it will only take a day or two. Luckily, the game has more variety than the average rail runner. Each time period yields different monsters, the backgrounds are beautiful and the action is fairly intense and gripping. Overall, you'll have a fun, if short, trip through past and future as the TIME COMMANDO.
It's as if the game couldn't decide what it wanted to be and chose too much of a middle position; it's neither a good adventure nor a good fighting game. The design is not entirely without merit; it just doesn't excel and, like most hybrid games, risks failing to appeal enough to fans of either genre.
