Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear Mission Pack - Urban Operations

The designers have made gameplay much harder with better places for the terrorists to hide in, and being in city areas, there are often innocent passers-by who you have to avoid killing. The Urban Ops CD not only has the new levels, but contains an upgrade of Rogue Spear that fixes the software hassles the original was plagued by. This is a terrific new installment in the series and, for mine, takes it a huge leap further. Excellent work, Red Storm.

Since Urban Operations is an add-on to Rogue Spear, I guess the question is, 'What is gained' and 'Is it worth it?' Well, as far as game enhancements, there is a new mode - Lone Wolf mode. This, however, is more of a novelty which shows how ridiculous the whole 'Rambo' concept is (one soldier taking out an entire army). However, the missions that are included are exciting, well designed, and feature well designed environments. Altogether, Urban Operations is a great enhancement for Rogue Spear. If you have been longing for some fresh action and a new Rogue Spear fix, then Urban Operations is just what your dealer ordered.

While a longer single-player campaign would have been nice, and Internet play can be unstable on The Zone and Mplayer, Urban Ops is well worth its modest admission price.

But overall Urban Operations is a better than average expansion pack, if just for the level design alone, but it's too damn short. We know you have it in you, Red Storm, so please give us more next time.

Alles was Rogue Spear gut macht, findet sich auch hier. Recht detaillierte Umgebungen wie in Istanbul oder des Hotels in Hongkong erfreuen das Auge des Hobby-Terroristenjägers. Die Atmosphäre stimmt jedenfalls; nur hätten wir uns etwas mehr Abwechslung gewünscht, denn immer läuft es auf das Eliminieren der Bösewichter und zuweilen die Rettung von Geiseln hinaus. Außerdem sind fünf Missionen doch etwas wenig, denn die hat man auch als wenig versierter Kommandant in einem Tag gelöst. Die anderen Verbesserungen fallen aufmerksamen Spielern zwar auf, werten das Spiel aber nicht so auf, dass Urban Operations ein absolutes Muss wäre. Trotzdem ein netter Zeitvertreib, denn bis das nächste ähnlich geartete Spiel erscheint, dürften noch ein paar Monate vergehen.

The pack also provides ten new multiplayer maps taken from the campaigns and another eight specially designed for multiplayer games, including a Siberian base and a small but demanding graveyard map, where you can dodge behind individual headstones. There's even a submarine base full of pipes which release clouds of steam when hit by stray - or deliberate - shots. A big bonus for Rogue Spear addicts.

Urban Operations isn't a radical rethinking of Rogue Spear, but it packs enough new content in both single- and multiplayer modes to be worth purchasing. And unlike some other recent expansion packs, it's priced to sell at under 20 bucks. Hell, the excitement of two-player co-op defend is worth that much.

If you are like me and are a Rainbow Six junkie, you'll wind up paying the $20 for the mission pack. You might grumble a bit when you play it, but at the end of the day you know that you've fed your R6 monkey and he should be okay until the next installment. All in all, Red Storm has put out a good companion to their Rogue Spear game, it's just too bad it wasn't a bit bigger in content for single player gaming.

Für ein Addon bietet Urban Operations viel zu wenig. Magere fünf Missionen, die ich locker an einem Vormittag gelöst habe, grenzen schon arg an Beutelschneiderei. In diesem Zusammenhang riechen die Handvoll Zusatzeinsätze aus Rainbow Six stark nach schlechtem Gewissen. Vorschlag zur Güte: Als kostenloser Download wäre Urban Operations ein nettes Geschenk an die treuen Fans.

Sortie tardive en France, moteur graphique limite hors-d'âge, défauts difficilement acceptables actuellement, durée de vie faible, cette extension Urban Operations aurait pu constituer l'épilogue des ratages pour Rogue Spear. Pourtant, les fans peuvent clairement faire plus confiance à cet add-on qu'au dernier Rainbow Six : Covert Operations, tant sur le plan financier que purement ludique. Les nouvelles missions sont de très bonne facture, les armes supplémentaires sympathiques, bref, les fans retrouveront les véritables sensations d'un Rainbow Six. Ah, si seulement, ce titre de Red Storm Entertainment était sorti plus tôt, beaucoup plus tôt...
