Once you get used to the interface, it works just fine. Until then, it can prove quite frustrating. The Tone Rebellion is an entertaining game, fun to play and rewarding. The learning curve is worth the effort, but may turn some people off at first. Bottom Line: Good game with options to play as any of four alien races. A different slant on the real time genre. Confusing interface coupled with a not so thorough manual makes the game more difficult to learn than necessary. Worth the time to learn it, though.

The Tone Rebellion is not the greatest strategy game of all time, but it's an extremely absorbing diversion if you're prepared to spend a little time getting used to how everything works. The graphics are fab, too, and the obligatory multi-player options are well catered for. I'm also told the realms 'thing' really comes into play on the more difficult levels, so if you finish the game you can go back and try it again with the 'weirdy' factor turned up to maximum.

Selten hat mich ein Spiel so überrascht wie Leviathan. Wer es gewohnt ist, Panzer, Raumschiffe oder Fantasygestalten in Echtzeit aufeinander zu hetzen, muß erstmal umdenken. Nicht nur die an Aquarien erinnernden Welten samt Hintergrundmusik sind abgedreht, sondern das ganze Spielprinzip: Da ich auf mehreren Inseln gleichzeitig gegen das Böse antrete, ist strategisches Denken gefragter denn je. Soll ich den Dojo jetzt an die Front setzen, oder lasse ich meine Kampf-Floater lieber von der Nachbarwelt her anrücken? Greife ich frontal an oder hintenrum über eine offene Brücke? Das Rätselknacken ist zwar nicht allzu schwer –wohl aber, an die passenden Puzzleteile heranzukommen. Leviathan ist mit Genrekollegen wie Dark Reign oder T. A. kaum zu vergleichen. Wenn Sie als Echtzeitstratege auch einmal andere Wege gehen wollen, sollten Sie zuschlagen!

Zu sagen, daß Sie Leviathan entweder lieben oder hassen werden, wäre doch zu einfach. Das fantasy-mäßige Ambiente mit den Spähren-Klängen im Hintergrund ist sicher nicht jedermanns Sache. Aber das Spiel bietet nicht nur eine hervorragende Steuerung, sondern auch einen in sich logischen Spielverlauf. Grafik und Sound sind ungewöhnlich, doch nicht schlecht.

Als je op zoek bent naar een goed multiplayer spel waarbij je bloed begint te koken als je tegenstander weer een van je eenheden heeft verpulverd, dan moet je The Tone Rebellion links laten liggen. Ben je echter fan van spellen als Master of Orion, of weet je de historische achtergrond in een spel wel te waarderen, dan is dit zeker geen slcht spel om tussendoor te spelen.

As the game progresses, it becomes clear that the freedom to implement different strategies has definite limits. At times, you gets the feeling that they're following an unwritten agenda, playing an amniotic rendition of Simon Says. However, once resigned to the fact that The Tone Rebellion more closely typifies a puzzle game rather than true strategy, it elicits a subtle yet powerful charm.
