Trivia
Although the PC version features bonus soundtracks, higher resolution graphics, PC exclusive unlockables and online multiplayer, the team responsible for the port never took the effort to support gamepads. Yes, your heard that right: a console port that doesn't support any gamepads, released in the 21st century.
The newspaper that Kang's boss hands him after the first mission has a small headline reading...
"Games Programmers Overworked
Take to Smoking at Desk"
The streets of Los Angeles are more or less accurately depicted throughout the game. If you drive south on Bundy and head west on Ocean Park Blvd, you will actually pass Activision's headquarters, with a similar appearance and location to its real-world counterpart.
When you go to a gas station/garage to have your car repaired, Nick sometimes says "Now the cops are not gonna find me! Uuh... wait..." This is a reference to the Grand Theft Auto series where you can have your car repaired/repainted so the cops will not recognize your car. Too bad Nick *is* a cop in True Crime!

Many cars in the game have the California license plate 2GAT123. This license plate is commonly used in movies shot in California, like Crazy/Beautiful, LA Story, Mullholland Dr., Pay It Forward, and Traffic.

Crime author Robert Crais filed a lawsuit, stating that the game's lead character Nick Kang was essentially a rip-off of Elvis Cole, the ex-cop antihero that features in nine of his novels. After some weeks of negotiation with Activision, he dropped it.
