PC Gameplay (Benelux)
Een origineel decor, maar dan met ondermaatse graphics en achterophinkende gameplay. Spark Unlimited slaat de bal volledig mis.

Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is a good idea put badly into practice; what you might call an unfinished game. The competition may not be too powerful on consoles, but on PCs it can not make the difference. Even if we overlook the underdeveloped story (though it represents the heart of the game) we would still come across an excessive linearity, an undeveloped AI and a very short single-player (three acts totalizing some five hours of playtime) with a very poor feeling. Killing the Nazis is not a novelty, but if you like this kind of games, you can give it a chance. At least it won’t take you very long.

After playing through just a bit of Turning Point, we were completely disappointed. The old feeling to it completely ruined the original concept. It is said often, but there are plenty of other shooters out there that are more worth your while. So whether you were thinking of buying or renting, save your cash.

Turning Point: Fall of liberty is a shining example of a great idea poorly executed. There is fun to be had with the game, but it's not the grand adventure it claims to be. Shooting Nazis in the streets of three major U.S. cities should be a non-stop thrill ride that has me on the edge of my seat. This game provides the opposite experience. If you're a die-hard WWII buff (or zeppelin fetishist), give this one a rent. Otherwise, skip it and read a Harry Turtledove novel instead.

Admitted, there are few games completely bugfree and some games you'll have a hard time not tripping over some. Turning Point is somewhere in between, but there are enough present to make it irritating after a while. Qua images the game doesn't do so great either, the cartoony style is fun but at times seems more chosen for being an easy solution than a choice of style. The music on the other hand is very good. Old-skool orchestral tunes hold off the ultimate point of frustration for a while.

You can’t help but feel cheated by the lack of polish overall on this game as a PC gamer. Spark has taken the tried and tested graphical powerhouse that is the Unreal III Engine and churned out a straight port of a console game that takes all the power of the modern PC and totally ignores it. Try customising the controls. Is that an X-box controller I see before me? I think so! Is that the Uninstall icon I am clicking on like a man possessed? Jawohl!

It's a veritable cornucopia of suckitude only useable as a torture method by the CIA to extract important information from gamers. In other words, save your money.

Worth Playing
Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is a prime example of how not to make a decent FPS, and with so many better titles out there now and a lack of budget pricing, it's hard to imagine what the devs were thinking. The setting and almost-story are worthwhile, just very shoddily realized and executed. F.E.A.R. Platinum, Vegas 2, and TimeShift (among others) are all out right now, and each is easily more deserving of your cash than Turning Point. If you simply must play a WWII-themed game, stick with the earlier Medal of Honor or Call of Duty games, or pick up the oldie-but-goodie Freedom Fighters to get your fix of repelling invaders on American soil.

Хорошо. Только одно мне неясно: почему от Turning Point: Fall of Liberty пахнет плесенью? Танцор-стрелочник Аллен, не желаете ответить на вопрос?

With the number of average-to-outstanding FPS titles available on next-gen consoles, there's absolutely no reason to waste your time with this disaster.

With this being perhaps the best time ever for the first-person shooter genre, mediocre, poorly-wrought games like Turning Point stick out more than they normally would. Its technical flaws are very much at odds with the standards that have been renewed by the best games of last year, and its uninspired game design feels completely mired in an era that we'd sooner be done with. There's simply no reason to waste your time with it.

It feels a little wrong to be so down on a game that seemed genuinely interesting when it was first announced, but Turning Point is so devoid of the qualities needed in a modern FPS that it's impossible to sugar coat. It's just a very bad game, plain and simple.

Turning Point: Fall of Liberty does have a great set-up, and that’s about it. The game tells its story horribly, your character is both improbable and without any personality, the AI is terrible, the gameplay lackluster, and graphics middling. Even as a budget title, which Turning Point is certainly doomed to become, the game is hardly worth the bother. Well, unless you like “high concept titles” of course.

I focus on the concept because Turning Point's content is so utterly forgettable that it almost doesn't warrant comment: Ironically übermenschian everyman Dan Carson stutters his way through America's remarkably linear Eastern Seaboard and beyond, blasting stormtroopers that block access to checkpoints and levers that need pulling. The pacing and variety are pre-Call of Duty at best, and the only moment of satisfaction comes in the form of a mushroom cloud that vaporizes the hero at the end of the game -- a merciful explosion that precludes a sequel. I wouldn't recommend Turning Point to anyone, under any circumstances...and if that's not the definition of utter failure, I don't know what is.
