Turok 2: Seeds of Evil

Turok 2 plaatst zich moeiteloos aan de top van super gelikte en keiharde shooters. De donkere typering, de superbe graphics en wederom een heel arsenaal awesome wapens zorgen dat Turok 2: Seeds of Evil ruimschoots voor de test slaagt.

Look, we don't want to sound too negative. Check out the score: like we said, Turok 2 is a very, very good game. We do feel that Iguana could have spent more time utilising the PC's strong points (by joining the levels together a la Half-Life and removing the fogging, for example), but despite this they've still come up with an engrossing, exciting game packed with plenty of surprises.It's also pretty damn huge, and will keep you rivetted from beginning to end. It may be more console-oriented than the likes of Half-Life, but in the occasionally musty world of PC games a little arcade immediacy is no bad thing. Anyone should lap up Turok 2. Except perhaps dinosaurs.

If you've missed the exquisitely detailed graphics of the N64, or long to explore every inch of a 3D map, Turok 2 could be a good buy for you. Just remember that unless you have incredible patience, you WILL get frustrated, disoriented, and confused. Of course if worse comes to worst, there's always multiplayer mode, which can't possibly merit more than an overall rating of 82.

Ansonsten wirkt Seeds of Evil im Vergleich zur aktuellen 3D-Konkurrenz sowohl spielerisch wie technisch leicht angestaubt. Besonders die langweiligen Wandtexuren können ihre Herkunft vom gleichzeitig erscheinenden N64-Modul nicht verleugnen und sorgen wie beim Vorgänger dafür, daß in den riesigen Levels markante Wegpunkte zur Orientierung fehlen. Bei Turok 2 stehen weniger die Story oder eine glaubwürdige Welt im Mittelpunkt, sondern Action pur – wer darauf steht, wird glücklich

Usually the games that do the 'little things' right which show a developer was really on the ball are what seperate the classics from the forgettable. Somehow though Turok 2 managed to nail all of the small stuff but forgot to put a decent game around it. Its just overflowing with nice touches, yet it doesn't come together as a whole.

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil är en besvikelse. Spelet hade alla förutsättningar för att lyckas, men störande detaljer drar ner betyget. Den gungande kameran är det största problemet, eftersom den även drar ner spelkänslan i multiplay. De enformiga banorna stör även spelupplevelsen.

Ben je een echte shoot 'em up verslaafde die er niet mee inzit om op een weinig originele manier level na level te zuiveren van alle monsters, terwijl je ook nog eens het traditionele 'hendeltjes en poortjes' spelletje moet spelen, dan is Turok 2 misschien iets voor jou. Heb je echter al van Half-Life of Unreal geproefd, dan geeft ik jullie slechts drie karakters :-(

Bitte, bitte schlagt mich nicht, all ihr Konsolenbesitzer, aber N64-Spiele können inzwischen nur noch in seltenen Fällen einen PC-Spieler umhauen. Turok 2 ist dafür ein gutes Beispiel, denn während es als Videospiel Begeisterungsstürme hervorruft, hat es auf dem PC einen schwachen Stand gegen die hochkarätige Konkurrenz. Ja sicher, Turok 2 macht Spaß und ist recht umfangreich, aber es ist keineswegs spektakulär. Die Waffen haben leider meist nur einen Modus, sind dafür jedoch immerhin in puncto Wirkung gut durchdacht: Man sollte jeweils die passende Wumme gegen die verschiedenen Monstertypen einsetzen und dieser an den richtigen Stellen treffen. Bemerkenswert ist der Splitscreen-Modus, den man inzwischen selten bei einem PC-Spiel findet und mit dem auch Normalsterbliche ohne Netzwerk gegeneinander antreten können.

Вне всякого сомнения, хитом этой игре не быть. Никаких шансов. Потому что, даже если попытаться мысленно отвлечься от всех имеющихся в ней недоработок и откровенных глюков, в остатке мы получим всего лишь "просто 3D-шутер". Обычный 3D-шутер. Каковым в эпоху Unreal & Half-Life живётся очень и очень несладко. Единственная надежда у игры, на мой взгляд, это мультиплеер. Не удивляйтесь, господа, я говорю так не потому, что мультиплеер в Turok 2 невероятно хорош, а просто потому, что я его ещё не пробовал. Посему и не оставляю надежды, что хоть там-то есть в игре хоть что-нибудь свежее и необычное...

In the end, Turok 2 proves that what makes a good game on the N64 doesn't necessarily have what it takes to satisfy PC gamers. Some of the things that N64 gamers woo about-sound reactive opponents, enemies that hide, and locational damage-have been in most PC shooters for years. If it would have been released two years ago, Turok 2 might have stood a chance in the PC FPS market. But as it stands now, there's just not enough room for a game like Turok 2.

La difficulté est correcte. Néanmoins, le design des niveaux - très classique - ne parvient pas à faire de Turok 2 une référence dans le domaine des Doom-like, et pas non plus à rivaliser avec les meilleurs productions du genre. Seules les particularités du jeu (ambiance assez violente, et les monstres qui sont des dinosaures) pourront intéresser le joueur fan de doom-like. Sinon, c'est du déjà vu.

If you love shooters, you'll like Turok 2. It's obviously not in the same league as Half-Life in design and immersion, nor does it compare to Quake for pure entertainment. It's not the most fun shooter, but if you don't mind old key-hunting gameplay and the annoying hub-based design, by all means step into Turok's shoes again.

That aside, for those who liked Turok or can forgive the faults of Turok 2, it is an enjoyable game. The decent graphics, great weapons, abundance of gore, and unusual environs offer something moderately new to the first-person-shooter crowd. It's even fun. That is, until the tedium sets in and you start proclaiming your angst over all this game's N64 caused misfortunes, in song, with a New York accent, so that "Dinosoids" doesn't sound quite out of place.
