Ultimate Ride

Keine Gäste, kein Geld – ist das überhaupt ein Spiel? Und wie! Stundenlang feile ich an den Radien von Loopings und Kurven, um gerade noch unter der Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzung zu bleiben. Manche der kniffligen Aufgaben sind nur nach mehreren Anläufen zu schaffen und gehen mir auch in Spielpausen nicht aus dem Kopf. Die schicken Fahrten auf den selbst gebauten Bahnen entschädigen für das investierte Hirnschmalz. Allerdings sind manche der Missionen zu leicht geraten. Der Spaß ist damit schnell vorbei. Zudem hätte ich mir etliche für das Addon geplante Ideen auch schon für das Hauptprogramm gewünscht.

Graphics are really high quality. The surroundings and backgrounds are impeccable, but some objects do seem a bit bare and blocky. This, however, does in no way spoil the overall visual impression. The animation speed (which is crucial in a game like this) is astounding, and barely hardware dependant. The feeling you get from rushing down the coaster at more than 100 miles per hour is probably far from the real thing, but powerful nonetheless; and the satisfaction you get from a job well done is even batter. There are three kinds of lighting, and they depend on the time of day the ride takes place. The cameras have been perfectly positioned. Sound is probably the worst aspect in the entire game - it will give you no inspiration, the effects are poor, and the soundtrack obsolete.

Met Ultimate Ride kun je imposante achtbanen bouwen en er in een veelkleurige omgeving doorheen racen. Voor veel gamers zal de uitdaging echter beperkt zijn.

Ultimate Ride has a great basic premise that is sure to appeal to roller coaster fans of all ages. While the game's graphics and sound could use some improvement, they do a good job of conveying the sense of riding a coaster while in the 3D ride mode, and the straightforward interface and graphics in the build mode make it easy, once you've learned the basic commands, to design and create a coaster. If you've ever wanted to see what it would be like if your favorite coaster had just a few more loops in it, or if you just want to build and experience some roller coasters without experiencing that weightless feeling in your gut, Ultimate Ride is a good choice.

Mais voilà, en dehors d'un concept vraiment sympa, Ultimate Ride a contre lui un intérêt de jeu qui s'amenuise de partie en partie. Alors qu'au début, on est tout fou en construisant ses premières montagnes russes, l'enthousiasme se dissipe au bout de la troisième ou quatrième construction. Le mode Ingénieur, s'il est intéressant avoue lui aussi ses limites un peu trop rapidement. Et au final, on s'ennuie plus qu'autre chose. Reste la possibilité de balancer ses créations sur la toile mondiale, mais honnêtement à part les collectionneurs de montagnes russes, je ne vois pas qui ça pourrait intéresser...
