Description

In 2091, the Utopia project was launched. It was a complete virtual world that people could enter to live out their dreams and fantasies. Unfortunately, Utopia became so popular that the number of people in the virtual world eventually outnumbered those in the real world. And the citizens of Utopia never wanted to leave. The result was that the real world was neglected and fell into a state of decay.

As a result of this, the Department of Anti-Utopian Affairs (AUA) was formed. The AUA sent agents into Utopia to try to bring people back to the real world. This is possible by collecting a person's 'info-disk.' However, the only way to collect the disk is at the time of a person's 'virtual death.' Unfortunately, most of the agents failed in their mission or simply gave up as they also became enraptured by the wonders of the unreal realm.

You are the AUA's last, best hope. Enter Utopia and find a way to destroy the central computer, the Mastermind. Then all the people trapped in this life-sucking place will be free.

Utopia City is a first-person shooter with a few RPG-like elements. You can explore the city freely, as long as you do not wave your guns at innocent civilians or go into any restricted zones. Inevitably, though, you will need to break a few rules to succeed in your mission. If you go in like a maniac, all guns blazing, you will incur the wrath of the security forces and find yourself in a large-scale gun battle. However, killing people does mean that you can pick up their 'info-disks' which will give you more energy. After you have picked up a certain number of disks, you will automatically receive a new piece of weaponry.

On the other hand, you can try for a less violent, more subtle approach by sneaking into areas when guards are not looking (though this will not always be possible) or trying to avoid fights where you can. This will mean you have less energy and fewer weapons, but it will raise your reputation in the eyes of the people.

A key goal of the game is to locate various 'artefacts.' Each of these will give you a special ability. For instance, you will be able to slow down time, generate a shield or become invisible. You have a certain amount of energy and a management system allows you to allocate it to different areas as you see fit. This means you can recharge your health fairly quickly if you are near death; You can recharge health, shields and ammo in equal amounts; Or you can put everything into your speed booster if you want to quickly run through a dangerous area.
