If in following patches Paradox stabilizes the game further, improves performance and fixes some of the economic imbalances, I see myself wasting (even more of) my life with the game. Highly recommended if you’re not afraid of difficult strategy games, but be prepared to dump hours here, this is a huge game!

All those who have long-term plans to play Victoria II and the mods associated with it need to update to A House Divided as soon as possible. The expansion manages to make the core game better while also offering a number of potential avenues for future development.

Adrenaline Vault, The (AVault)
AHD is a product for strategy gamers that aren’t just interested in conquering stuff. The new system for generating war goals slows down the pace with which wars can be initiated, and the tight economy ensures that lengthy wars are more dangerous to all combatants than short ones. In that sense, then, if you hated the way Victoria II was setup, you’ll hate the expansion, too. If you loved the original and want an even stiffer challenge, then AHD is for you. Priced at $19.95, Victoria II: A House Divided is a worthy expansion to a good game.

It offers enough new content to make one play through enjoyable, and it has enough depth to make you want to come back for more. If you own Victoria II, you would have to be crazy to not want to pick up this expansion. If you don't have Victoria II, now would be a good time to start playing it.

With the addition of the expansion, I see a highly enjoyable game with a great art style and decent sound track being held back by a plague of awkward user interface and usability problems. I couldn’t recommend this game to everyone (the whole genre is very much a niche market anyway), but if you enjoy large-scale strategy games, or even just fancy trying out something new, you could do a lot worse than Victoria II (as long as you get the expansion!!!)
