All Game Guide
Going on the assumption that buyers of the game would consist mainly of those who had played previous games in the series, the designers opted to leave out some of the basics in the manual and concentrated on the new features. This oversight is one of the very few minor gripes about the game (but only in consideration of the novices who may pick it up). The only other possible quibble would be the lack of the army editor that was included with the Warlords II Deluxe Edition but the inclusion of the scenario, campaign and item editors and a random map generator more than makes up for it. For veterans of the series, the irritating glitch concerning set-aside quests has been fixed. Warlords III: Darklords Rising brings the game design to a welcome maturity level and one can only wonder what SSG has in store for its customers in the future. Bring it on!

If you're looking for something to tide you over until the holiday rush, Warlords III: Darklords Rising is highly recommended. In fact, you might even forget about the games you've been waiting for. In this update of Reign of Heroes, SSG has done a great job of giving fantasy wargame fans a game worthy of the Warlords name.

This game is a worthy successor in the Warlords series. The updated AI and the addition of a scenario and campaign editor also make it a reasonable upgrade from Warlords III: Reign of Heroes. I recommend it to anyone who has enjoyed any of the previous Warlords titles. For those new to the Warlords series, the turn-based play could be a problem, especially for those who really enjoy the real time simulations like
Total Annihilation or
Age of Empires.

See U on M-Player, guys...

Since Warlords III is such a good game, folks who missed it the first time around should definitely consider picking this one up, particularly if they're fans of turn-based strategy games. For those who've already shelled out for Warlords III, it will be a slightly tougher decision, but if Red Orb offers some sort of discount or rebate to owners of the previous game, that decision should become a lot easier.

Darklords was a fun and addicting turn based strategy game that is sure please many people who enjoy that type of gaming. The gameplay was complex, different, and refreshing with all of its available features, including playing over email, which I thought was a really good idea. The missions are all fun and difficult, and actually tie into the story, which is a rarity in today's et of action games. The graphics, which lacked a little bit at times, were in general really nice and helped to heavily promote the atmosphere of medieval fantasy. The sounds were all good, but the in game music was the best of them all and really helped the whole feel of the game. With all of those things considered, this was an overall fun game that kept me playing for hours on end.

Meine einst große Begeisterung
fürs Spielprinzip kühlt immer stärker
ab. Nach wie vor artet jede Partie
in Arbeit aus, noch immer sind
die Kämpfe zu zufällig. Es gibt so
viele Truppen und Artefakte , daß
ich weniger auf genaue Planung als
auf Einheiten-Massen setze.
Für Fans ist Darklords Rising natürlich
geeignet. Aber auch für Leute,
die noch kein
Warlords ihr Eigen
nennen und Lust haben auf unkomplizierte Fantasy-Schlachten.

Als vor einem Jahr Warlords 3 erschien,
entsprach es in Grafik,
Sound und Spielweise nicht mehr
den Standards. Darklords Rising
beinhaltet kein technisches Update,
d. h. außer zwei neuen
Kampagnen hat sich eigentlich
nichts geändert. Richtiger Spielspaß
kommt leider nur im
Mehrspieler-Modus auf, für den
nun Internetserver zur Verfügung
stehen. Ansonsten ist diese
Zweitvermarktung bestenfalls
Strategiefans anzuraten, die eine
Vorliebe für Fantasy haben.

It's a rehash of Reign of the Heroes. The box says it includes the campaigns and scenarios from RotH, so that right there sounds like ADDON to me, not exactly worth a sequel. It does feature some decent improvements over RotH, so it might be worth it if you liked the original. Otherwise, I really can't say it's a bad tbs, just not anymore than decent. Just wait for HOMM3 if you're hungry for a Medieval style turn baser!
