Wonderburg is a casual city building game with fantasy themes and simplified gameplay following closely the template of the Build-a-lot series. The screen shows an isometric view of the terrain, with roads, vacant lots and buildings. The interface sits at the bottom, with tabs showing the objectives and building options. In most levels, one of the main objectives is to build specific buildings before the chronometer at the top left winds down in the timed mode. The timer has three colors sections in its dial, to indicate what medal the player is going to receive after completing the level objectives on time: green for gold, yellow for silver and orange for bronze.
Empty lots are available to build a variety of constructions. Lots and buildings can be sold or bought, and proprieties not owned by the player are shown in gray tones. To start construction, the player has to select one of the lots, and choose one of the blueprints at their respective tab. Each building costs money and needs a certain amount of dwarf workers and materials to be built, that can be hired and purchased on separate tabs. After being erected, housings start to generate rent revenue every few seconds, and are the main source of cash in the game. They can be upgraded several times to become more profitable. Other buildings don't give money, but help by decreasing prices, maintaining the other constructions or keeping vandalism down. New blueprints become available gradually as the game progresses.
Buildings can be haunted by evil creatures or break. Alisa can be summoned to exorcise the possessed places, and dwarfs can be dispatched to repair the constructions, both at cost. At the end of some levels, the cursor becomes a magic wand and the player has to click on a number of wandering vandals to make them disappear.
