This could be the shortest most concise review in the history of video gaming. If you're not a football fan and you've never been tempted by any of the previous Football Manager (or Championship Manager if we go back a few years) games then this years edition is just as unlikely to worm its way into your heart. However, if you've played and enjoyed any of those previous versions, or love football and have yet to try a management game and are wondering if you should test the waters with this then the answer is clear.

If the previous games in the series appealed to you, then Football Manager 07 will appeal to you, swallowing up hours of your time without you even realising it. If you've never encountered the series (what rock have you been under?) and you're a football fan then you have to give it a try, provided you can afford to abandon your life for the ton of hours required to be a successful football manager. Come on Barnet!

Nog altijd even onverschillig tegenover graphics of geluid maar nog altijd even gevaarlijk voor relaties en sociaal contact. De beste.

But actually, deciding whether to buy the latest Football Manager isn't a hard decision - especially if you've taken a break from the genre. If you want a game that lets you take a club to glorious heights or just go on a one-man sabotage mission to ruin Manchester United, then this is by far the most refined, in-depth and yet most approachable version Sports Interactive has come up with to date.

Football Manager 2007 would have been great if all we'd received was last year's game with this year's stats. It wouldn't have been a wise move on SEGA and Sports Interactive's part, but it would have still sold well and kept us all up until the wee hours. Thankfully, what we got is new layers of depth that, while not revolutionising the series, have made this year's game a more accurate and more immersive managerial experience. When you're playing a game in a small window, hopping back to it whenever you get a moment free from work, you know it's got you hooked. Football Manager does it year after year, and this year is no exception.

When
you've got a series that already has such a high level of quality,
the real skill lies in not changing all those things that work perfectly
well and ensuring that the adjustments and additions you do make
improve on what has come before. In both these regards Football
Manager 2007 can be considered a success.

Simply put, it's the deepest, most realistic sports simulator I've ever played. It doesn't require thumbs of steel or sublime motor skills; instead, it demands careful thought, planning, and a keen management style. Thankfully, you don't need to know the difference between a 4-4-2 and 1-4-2-4 or grasp the intricacies of the global transfer market to enjoy the game – and, by the way, if you don't know what those are, you will by the time you've piloted a team through a season or two.

Football Manager 2007 is Sports Interactive's third game since leaving the Championship Manager name behind, and while it's a case of evolution rather than revolution, it turns screens of statistics into something so absorbing that it is possible to lose entire hours, days, and weeks of your life.

First of all, the level of interaction you have as a manager is now simply unparalleled. No other management sim lets you handle your club with this level of detail, but at the same time, remains completely accessible to even the newest of budding Mourhino’s. Everything is available to you at the click of a button, and for those rare times that it isn't, the introduction of hints and tips appearing whilst processing fixtures is welcome, even teaching a veteran of the series a few new tricks.

Again a good Football Manager that can be added to the series. It is and remains up to now one of the better (if not best) in its genre. In short: if you want to manage your club as realistically as possible, then choose for this King Football Manager

The most important addition is the increased amount of manager, player and press interactions. In the previous games, you could play "mind games" with opposing managers before and after matches. You could tell them you regarded them very highly, or you could tell them they were the biggest hacks the game has ever seen.

Sports Interactive once again overcome any initial scepticism with a multitude of little touches and new introductions combined to make Football Manager 2007 an essential update - just that little bit better then before. A return to the "One More Match" compulsion that signifies Sports Interactive's work, Football Manager 2007 is going to keep you company for all the long and late nights on the way.

In conclusion, if you are new to manager games, try it. It may seem overwhelming at first, but surely you will get the hang of it in no time. And if you are more than accustomed with the genre and liked last year's release, then definitely try it. The new version keeps all the good aspects of its predecessor and even manages to add some new ones. But enough talking, I've got to go... got a big match to prepare and I still don't know what forwards to use!
