www.nintendo.com – GameCube:
The early bird might want to hit snooze. These worms have a mean streak.
Worms 3D takes the turned-based combat genre and smacks it upside the head with a trunkful of ways to blow stuff up.
In this game, your group of ground-sliders move through 3-D island landscapes to defeat rival worms. Deploy heavy artillery like a bazooka or the Holy Hand Grenade to tuck opposing worms in for nice, long dirt naps, or drown your enemies by knocking them in the water.
The worm that cannot learn from its mistakes is the one destined for fish food. It takes some practice to learn to succeed with the long-range weapons, especially the bazooka and various grenades. Variable winds aid to the complexity.
If you tire of repeatedly overshooting your opponent, take advantage of the uniquely breakable landscape and fire short to destroy the ground under your rival's, er, feet. For example, if a worm you're trying to eliminate is slithering across a bridge, you can blow up the bridge with your heavy artillery, thus dropping your enemy into the watery depths. To make things even more challenging, landscape elements might break differently when you replay the level.

Bottom Line
It's tough to stop playing Worms 3D. The long-range weapons may be a bit tough to control, but in a way, that adds to the unpredictability of the game. The immense variety of landscapes, customization options and ways to do in your enemies adds to the game's challenge. When in doubt, strap on the jet pack, get next to a rival worm and use a baseball bat to deep-six it at sea.
