Wings of Death

Ich hätte nicht geglaubt, daß ein ST so viele Sprites, sanftes Scrolling, Action, Digi-Musik und Sprachausgabe auf einmal verkraftet, ohne daß seine CPU schmilzt. Der Schwierigkeitsgrad ist happig, doch dank vier "Continues" kommt so schnell kein Frust auf. Bei Wings of Death fliegen die Fetzen mit Überschall; so manche müde Automatenumsetzung für Computer darg such as diesem Action-Feuerwerk mehrere Scheiben abschneiden.

With small sprites and masses of on-screen enemies, Wings of Death favours the intuitive blaster rather the planned-route followers of the R-Type brigade. This makes it fun at the outset but certainly harms long-term play. There is simply too much risk, too much left to chance and too many factors in favour of the enemies. WOD is a game which will be dragged out occasionally for a quick whiff of chaos, before you return to more survivable entertainment.

Die furiose Ballerei unterscheidet sich kaum von der Atari ST-Fassung. Und gerade das ist mir etwas unverständlich. Ein etwas zügigeres Scrolling und vor allem einen viel besseren Sound hätte man den Todesschwingen auf dem Amiga durchaus verpassen können. Ansonsten bleibt Wings of Death ein sehr gutes Actionspiel.
