Pure's audio features a lively techno soundtrack and a pleasant female voice that alerts you to upcoming hazards. The button configuration takes some getting used to (you need to release the accelerator to fire a weapon), and I'd definitely recommend the directional pad over the overly-sensitive analog nub. Wipeout Pure is easily one of the more addictive games for the system, and a true showcase of the PSP's power. It's just a shame Sony set the bar so high with this excellent launch title, because few PSP titles can even hope to match it.

Offering a perfectly balanced mix of features, gameplay, and style, Wipeout Pure is one of those rare gems that fires on all cylinders. No matter what your favored style of play, it is worth checking out. Without a doubt, Wipeout Pure is the PSP's first killer app.

Well, I'm flabbergasted. What more can I say? Wipeout Pure has it all; edge of your seat racing, big explosions, challenging tracks, aggressive competitors, superb graphics, exemplary cutting edge sound and is altogether one of the most well thought out and brilliantly conceived titles that it has ever been my joy to come across. If you don't buy this game after forking out megabucks for your console then you're a fool - makers of the PSP and developers of Wipeout Pure, I salute you!

Studio Liverpool, the SCEE development house responsible for Fusion, has returned to make a new name for itself with WipEout Pure. While the former was an attempt to broaden the scope of the franchise's gameplay, many of the systems introduced in Wipeout Fusion were obtuse and didn't positively affect the experience. For the follow-up, the developer has wisely snipped and trimmed off the elements that were ineffective and accentuated many of the traits that gamers adored from the series' earlier releases. The result is an extremely polished and playable futuristic racer that should thrill newcomers and absolutely destroy fans that have been itching for a more fulfilling, current-gen follow-up to their beloved series. If you fancy anti-gravity weapon-based racing, this one is most definitely for you.

Wipeout veterans will love the new features, especially the out-of-control Zone mode that will have you gripping your PSP with white knuckles as sweat pours down your brow. Wipeout Pure is the pinnacle of racing and the ultimate achievement in portable gaming, all in one sleek package. If you own a PSP then this game had better be in it.

The only skirmish this spectacular title has is a minor framreate issue that occurs at the more chaotic parts of the game. Fortunatley, it doesn't heavily affect your experience and lasts for a very short period of time (usually a few seconds or less). Also it would have been nice to see some online play as it is limited to Wi-Fi connectivity.

Pure gets props for being just as good on the PSP as it is on PS2. It gets props for having incredible graphics, for moving at lightning-fast speeds, and for never, ever showing signs of technological inferiority (gimmicks like fog, slowdown, etc., are not a part of Wipeout Pure's beautiful world). It gets major props for having great controls without the use of a true analog stick. The PSP sliding-thumbstick thingy is more sensitive than it appears at first. No one will walk away unimpressed.

Overall, Wipeout Pure has far exceeded my expectations and is nearly perfect.

Wipeout Pure sets high standards not only for future sci-fi racers on the PSP, but consoles as well. Beautiful racetracks, detailed ships, outstanding particle effects, all-new sounds, original techno beats and immense replay value come together to form the most complete package on the PSP. Combine the already lengthy game with the potential of future downloads and Wipeout Pure becomes a content-rich game that will keep players coming back for months. It is great to see the series restored to its former glory and released alongside a new PlayStation device; the latest addition to the Wipeout series is pure Wipeout indeed.

I can’t even tell you how much I enjoyed this amazing video game on my PSP. Nothing compares to it and Wipeout Pure is easily in my top 10 best games of all time. The exhilaration you feel while racing is unbelievable and if you get hooked by the game (trust me, you will get hooked), you’re going to have an unforgettable experience. Sure, it has a few slowdowns, but that’s about the only negative aspect in the game. I’ve racked my brains as much as I could, but nothing bad comes to mind except the aforementioned slowdowns. The music is superb, the gameplay is perfect, the multiplayer is outstanding and the future of Wipeout Pure seems to be very bright. I know that I’ve easily forgiven Liverpool Studious for their major mess-up on Wipeout Fusion for PS2 thanks to this game. I can only advise you to go out there, buy a PSP and a copy of Wipeout Pure and enjoy!

While a few framerate issues keep its presentation from being completely flawless, there's no doubt that Pure will stun even the most jaded onlookers. It can be rather difficult at times, so be wary. But players who give themselves to Wipeout Pure will get plenty back in return. The race is on, and it couldn't be much more lovely.

Overall, Wipeout Pure is pure satisfaction. You will not go wrong with purchasing this title on launch day. Even if you want to rent it, you will enjoy every aspect of the title. Although the multiplayer options is bit lacking you will still have several months of gameplay time in single-player mode. Sony has mentioned downloadable content, but only time will tell to see what those items will be. I guess they will be skins, tracks, and possibly extra vehicles. Sony did a fantastic job and this is a must-have title for PSP owners.

WipEout Pure es un juego que entra por los ojos desde que se enciende la consola. Es un juego frenético, emocionante y bastante completo a pesar de no contar con más circuitos. Es sin duda el mejor de la serie en casi todos los aspectos y encima coincide con el lanzamiento de la consola. No vamos a decir que es un título por el que merezca la pena comprarse la portátil, tampoco es para eso, pero que sepáis que si os hacéis con una PSP encontrareis en WipEout Pure una apuesta segura.

Of all the launch games, Wipeout Pure has gotten the most glowing reviews and I think it deserves the attention. It is the most impressive game to use to show off the PSP's power, but it is also very, very fast and fun.

Miłośnicy antygrawitacyjnych stateczków znajdą tu wszystko: mnogość trybów zabawy, niesamowite poczucie prędkości, doskonałą oprawę audio-wizualną. Warto zaznaczyć, że w sieci pojawił się już dodatek do gry (Delta Pack), który można ściągnąć i zainstalować przy połączeniu konsoli do PC-eta. Pack zawiera nowe trasy, statki, skórki itd. Wkrótce pojawią kolejne upgrade’y, dzięki temu radość z zabawy w WipEout Pure długo nie wygaśnie. Gra poza drobnostkami nie posiada wad i każdy miłośnik gatunku musi ją po prostu mieć. Ech, mieć taki stateczek w rzeczywistości...

Nur Fusion verlor im direkten Duell gegen einen Mitbewerber, so dass noch immer keine PS2 meine heimischen vier Wände ziert. Ganz im Gegenteil dazu Pure: Die Rennen konzentrieren sich auf das Wesentliche und werden in einem eleganten Umschlag präsentiert. Der knackige Mix aus Geschwindigkeit, fordernden Strecken und explosivem Arsenal macht süchtig und regt dank des Medaillensystems und der fünf Klassen Anfänger wie Profis zum Weiterfliegen an. Zählt man die schicke Optik, den treibenden Soundtrack und die Flut an kostenlosen Extras dazu, bleiben bis auf die gelegentlichen Einbrüche der Framerate keine Wünsche offen. Wipeout Pure ist ein Must-Have! Nein, ich habe den Kauf des teuren Handhelds nicht eine Sekunde lang bereut.

Wipeout Pure will appeal to those who have experienced Wipeout games before, and to a new generation of players who see it as one of the best looking PSP launch games. I would definitely recommend Wipeout Pure to anybody who either has or will get a PSP. It's simply too slick to turn down.

Overall, I was blown away by WipEout Pure, and it appears that Studio Liverpool has done an incredible job with bringing this title back to the series' roots. From the way it controls, to the way it looks, to the wonderfully designed tracks and ship models, WipEout Pure is futuristic racing at its finest.

Wspaniała oprawa, niesamowita grywalność, zarówno w trybie dla pojedynczego gracza, jak i w „Multiplayerze” czynią z tej pozycji grę prawie pozbawioną wad. Wprawdzie znalazłoby się ich kilka, ale są to naprawdę drobnostki, a w porównaniu ze wszelkimi superlatywami tej pozycji, są niedostrzegalne. Ktoś, kiedyś powiedział: "Zagraj w Pure, a pokochasz Wipeouta", to zdanie chyba wystarczy… Gorąco polecam!

This is a portable package that has more to offer than some home console games. There's a lot to love about this title and very little to hate. It was hyped as one of the premier titles for the launch and that was hype well deserved. It may not be your style of racing and that's the only reason for this game not to be purchased alongside the console.

Fans of the original Wipeout will love what's on offer in Wipeout Pure. Even those who never experienced the original Wipeout but like futuristic racing games like the F-Zero titles will appreciate the game. Longstanding fans of the Wipeout series have had to suffer disappointing Wipeout sequels but in Wipeout Pure they finally have a game that manages to recapture the spirit of the original game which is quite an achievement.

It has to be said that Wipeout Pure really is one of the best PSP launch titles, and alongside Ridge Racer (which also scored highly) it's a testament to the quality of the games that kicked off the PlayStation generation ten years ago. It's a beautiful game, with an enormous amount of gameplay to keep you occupied. If you want something that really shows what the PSP is capable of, there are few better demos than this.

The idea of cramming a racing game into a portable seems counter-intuitive; after all, much of the rush of the racing genre comes from this sense of cinema-style immersion. That said, Namco's condensed Wipeout Pure works amazingly well. The PSP screen, although sized for portability, is much bigger than any comparable system, almost defying the notion of "handheld." It can do justice to the beautiful, panoramic fantasy scenery, which is so detailed that it's nearly distracting from the race. Luckily, there's a mode for tourists who just want to cruise around and watch the sun set over a snow-covered peak. The graphics are breathtaking, and the electronica soundtrack is well-done.

WipEout Pure gives a refreshing breathe of fresh air to the average arcade style racer. With incredible visuals and an impressive soundtrack and Wi-Fi capabilities, this title clearly stands out amongst all of the launch titles.

Dass die Optik manchmal ins Stocken kommt, verzeihe ich aufgrund der luxuriösen Download-Extras gerne: Wo bekommt man heutzutage schon reichlich Bonistrecken, neue Vehikel und massig Musiktracks zum Nulltarif. Wer seinen Freunden was Gutes tun will, überträgt ihnen schließlich die multiplayerfähige "Pure"-Demo.

A great racing game and a welcome return to form. There's plenty to see and it's accessible to almost everyone. For anyone picking up a PSP, this will definitely be one of the games to get.

The back of the box tells us the year’s 2197; a full century after the second instalment in the series. There’s by no means one hundred years worth of progress evident in this title, if anything, it feels like no progress has been made at all. But that’s not a bad thing. Pure represents a welcome return to form, and while not a backward step, is certainly a carefully calculated side-step for a series that was in danger of losing it’s unique identity and blending with the also-rans the genre has to offer. While not pure, it’s certainly a fresh experience that revitalises one of the Playstation One’s greatest moments.

And that's really what Wipeout Pure is all about. The joy of careening down gorgeous, devilishly designed tracks, hitting the sweet spot in a hairpin turn and taking out an enemy with a well-laid mine makes a welcome comeback. The lack of online play and the sheer difficulty for newbies keeps it from attaining GR gold, but we're just happy to see it back on the podium where it belongs.

While the game doesn't quite play like XL, as some have said it will, it still stands on its own in the series as a fantastic title, and arguably the second best entry of the series. Make sure that you secure a copy of WipeOut Pure with your PSP if you're a fan of the series, you won't regret it.

I don't deny it, "Wipeout Pure" is THE launch title for Sony's new handheld, the PSP. It's a fantastic futuristic racer that has everything you want. Great graphics, a well worked out weapon system and fast gameplay. With the extra content on the way, it seems that Wipeout Pure will be played for a long long time! If you just bought a PSP, then Wipeout Pure is a must-have.

This is partially redeemed by the inclusion of a download option, which the developer will utilise, and deliver some much-needed extras. Reaching the end of Wipeout Pure is certainly a challenge, but once the higher ground has been breached (without PSP owning friends) there is little reason to return to the game.

A l'image de Ridge Racer sur PSP, WipEout Pure s'apparente finalement plus à un revival qu'à un nouvel épisode à part entière. Il apporte certes quelques nouveautés de gameplay comme l'absorption des armes et le mode multijoueur, mais emprunte encore beaucoup à ses prédécesseurs. Le charme agit toutefois dès les premières minutes même si les fondus de la saga seront sans doute un peu déçus par des débuts trop lents. Il manque encore un peu de punch dans la bande-son et un peu de folie pour en faire une véritable bombe, mais malgré tout, WipEout assure son come-back avec un titre particulièrement soigné, surtout au niveau visuel. Un des tout meilleurs titres du lancement de la PSP, à n'en point douter.

En débarquant sur PSP, WipEout n’a pas perdu de sa superbe, et l’expérience se révèle toujours aussi traumatisante pour les cardiaques. Blague à part, le jeu souffre d’un manque évident d’ergonomie, ce qui explique la note. Certains crieront au scandale. Tant pis. On n’était pourtant pas loin du hit, et il est dommage de voir cette saga devenir un peu élitiste, demandant une domination totale du jeu, de quoi en dérouter pas mal. La PSP montre une nouvelle fois de quoi elle est capable au niveau des graphismes, maintenant on attend un peu mieux du côté de la maniabilité…

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the really, really great music and sound in the game. It’s all trippy dance stuff with gels well with the futuristic theme, and it adds to the atmosphere. The graphics are pretty too, and convey that all-important sense of speed well. And the interface is also very slick, very stylish, and very polished. I especially loved the stats screen where every stat you can ever think of is calculated, including time spent staring at the stat screen displayed in real time! In the end I have mixed feelings about the game – I never had the feeling that I was in complete control of my racer, but I still enjoyed the races. I got the sense that it is a super-polished title, but the joy was never quite there because even when winning I felt I was out of control.
