Wolfenstein 3-D is a major blast! It's one of those rare games that's simple is design, easy to control and a heck of a lot of fun to play. You get all that and world war, too.

The Jaguar version improves upon the PC formula and that's great news for Wolfenstein fans and anyone who likes and intense, challenging game. The latest Wolfenstein 3D sets a new standard for Jaguar excitement.

Will ingredients like top graphics, superb sound and dangerous levels of playability and addiction, you can't go wrong with Id Software's brilliant blaster. Wolfenstein is a Sunday roast with Yorkshire puddings, carrots, sausages and gravy while every other game on the planet is the equivalent to a Pot Noodle.

Fantastic first-person shooter has arrived! Wolfenstein 3-D for the Jag is incredibly playable and a dizzying ride. Blasting Nazi's was never more fun! Infinitely superior to the SNES version and surprisingly, better than the PC.

Wolfenstein is the kind of game that should not be overlooked or discarded for its age. While it may have come early in the first-person shooting craze, it's still a fun game, and a Jaguar best.

When it hit the SNES last year, devoid of blood and Nazi enemies, everyone hated it. But even though the Jaguar version is structured after the SNES disaster, it looks 100% better, moves extremely well and has every drop of spraying gore. Woo-hoo!

While the Jaguar itself was quite a bust, Wolfenstein 3D proves it did feature some good titles. When replaying Wolf 3D, it is easy to see why the game spawned so many imitators and popularized the genre.

The Doom-style graphics are excellent and the frame rate is silky smooth. Mowing down the bad guys is satisfying, especially when you have an automatic weapon. There's some graphic violence here; soldiers spit blood when shot. Weapons include flamethrowers, chain guns, and rocket launchers. There are three save slots on the cartridge. Very nice.

Wolf 3D (which I also freely refer to as "Wolfenschnitzel" and "Wolfenheimer") for the Jaguar seems, upon first inspection, to be the version that didn't need to be made. The PC original and the sequel were released two years before. Doom was already rampaging through the stores. Not to mention, there's nothing particularly "64-bit" about Wolf. So why bother? Well, iD had the code laying around, they had the money to throw at it to make more money, so I can understand a pervasive "why not?" Yet this doesn't feel like the expected lazy cash-in port. Truthfully, it turns out to be an excellent version by any measure.

This is one of those exceedingly rare titles to outshine its PC counterpart in every way. The Jaguar is more than up to the task put before it. It's a shame we never got the extra levels from "Spear of Destiny" ported over, but that's certainly not a fault that can go against the game.

I used to play Wolfenstein 3-D all the time and this is the smoothest scrolling one of all. The audio is surprisingly good for being a Jaguar game. My biggest complaint is how fast the game scrolls by. I like fast games, but the gameplay is hurt in this case. If you own a Jag, by all means get it. You won't be disappointed. The effect of Wolfenstein has worn off a bit, but it's still an enjoyable game.

As one of my favorite games on the PC, this Super NES version almost has everything in the sense of the game play. As we know Nintendo has been known to be the "no violence" company. Many of the "bad" pictures abd decorations has been taken out. Less gore takes out the game. The rotation and scaling may not be good as the PC, but it's a good translation. Sound effects are ok. But, I still like this one.

Good memories aside, Wolfenstein isn't much. You get to blast through Nazis for 34 levels, but it's a one-note game that gets old quickly. There is some variety, but it just can't defeat the fact that you're only doing one thing in the game—blasting the same Nazis over and over again. Even I get tired of the game by about the fourth mission. This is a major caveat and it shows just how old the game really is.

Given that it debuted on the PC more than two years ago, and a version of Doom for the Jaguar is imminent, it's best to hold off on getting this one unless you're one of those who never tire of mindlessly blasting enemies and don't mind the bland color palette that was originally intended for 16-bit machines. And if you still haven't picked up Aliens Vs. Predator, you're well-advised to pick that one up instead as it's a far superior overall game.

This PC cult favorite isn't quite the same on the SNES (i.e., no blood, Nazis, or savage guard dogs). While changes will amuse some players, most will be frustrated by its poor graphics and watered-down "guts".

Virtually everything about Wolfenstein 3D seems to have been hurriedly and haphazardly designed. More than once while I played, I wondered how id Software could have rebounded to create my beloved Doom series. Games that featured innovative and unpredictable enemies in a variety of different settings. Games that weren’t afraid to shock players by having foes emerge from hidden passageways BEHIND their character. Games that essentially were everything Wolfenstein 3D was not. I have to admit that I found the final three boss levels to be exhilarating and suspenseful. The rest of the game? Absolutely forgettable.
