According to the box art, this game appears to be identical to the Iron Storm from 2002, except for the publisher:

Does this 2005 version actually have any changes, like maybe improved graphics?
After looking at the screenshots at:

I would say that this is the case - at least somewhat better graphics for this newer version - probably via more detailed textures.

I too have been wondering if the 2005 release was just a repackaged & renamed version of the 2002 edition (for example to be released as a budget edition) , but noticed that both versions were developed by a completely different group of people.

According to this :
http://www.yiya.de/reviews/w/wwar0101.shtml
review ( which is, unfortunately, in German ) the game "Iron Storm" was ported to the PS2 by Rebellion. The PS2 version was than again "re-ported" to windows.
So, it's basically old wine in new skins.

Reading that review, it seems that Rebellion's World War Zero is not simply a straight port of 4X's Iron Storm - there are a lot of design and level changes and the two play very different. So two game entries, as we have now, might be warranted. The connection should be made clear in the descriptions, though.

If you look at my screenshots you'll notice that there are these random white glowing squares all over the place http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/world-war-zero-iron-storm/screenshots/gameShotId,211342/ which I believe are remnants of the transformation the game went through.
