This is by the team that programmed Dragon's Lair, so as you would expect, the graphics are much better than anything else you'll see on the ST game scene. Sound is good too, with a combination of racy and mysterious tunes played at the appropriate moments. Unlike Dragon's Lair, Wrath of the Demon has the extra element of good playability. Granted, some levels are a bit tedious, but there are enough thrills to keep you coming back for more. The Save option proves extremely useful. You'll have to use it to explore the full depths of the game.

If you get off on wonderful graphics then this, like Shadow of the Beast is where to find 'em. However, what puzzles there are take a simple form and even the combat sequence are pretty basic. This aside, Beast fans will find this a natural progression, shows off will have fun wowing their friends with it, but sadly thinking gamesters could probably find better ways of spending such a big wad of dosh.

The slightly inflated price aside, Wrath Of The Demon has enough substance to appeal to most players, but especially those with a weakness for pretty graphics and Shadow of the Beast-style action.

ReadySoft's other games, including Dragon's Lair and Space Ace, have all suffered from the same thing: the graphics and the sound effects are stunning, but the gameplay has suffered quite considerably. However, Wrath of the Demon, although still containing breath-taking visuals and ear-shattering sound, manages to remain quite playable. On the whole, this is an enjoyable romp for 30 quid, the unfortunately may loose its appeal quickly due to it's rather repetitive gameplay.

Wrath of the Demon is graphically excellent throughout from the amazing ten-layer parallax to the beautifully drawn backdrops to the huge, well animated mega-monsters. Sound is also very good with moody tunes adding to the tense atmosphere. What's quite not so consistent in quality is the gameplay. The horse-riding level is fun and a promising introduction, but the single-screen combat scenes play rather simplistically - you have only a few combat moves - and can easily be completed.

Despite the game's obvious graphical excellence (enforced by decent inbetween-level screens), the playability veers on the sparse side - often. Control of the hero proves to be very unresponsive at times, it's especially tiresome on the single-screen fights, where timing is of the essence. Whether it'll fare well as far as lastability's concerned is questionable, but even with infinite continues, I doubt it, as battling the minions does require a sizeable amount of patience. My real criticism is that there's a multiload that's massive on disk alone - get yourself some strong cups of coffee if you're a cassette user. It's not all bad, bad, bad but if it played as well as it looked, it could earn the Hurricane Hit accolade. At the end of the day, there's just not enough of anything in particular.

As the saying goes: 'pretty graphics do not a good game make' and this certainly goes for Wrath of the Demon. The game features some stunning graphics with sound which is very similar to Psygnosis' Shadow of the Beast. The game's lack of playability, however, makes for a very average game.

Husker du vår omtale av Curse of Enchantia? ; )
