WRC World Rally Championship

In the end, after having exhausted myself from countless 2-3 hour playing sessions of World Rally Championship with the GT Force/Driving Force wheel, I can safely assure you that this is the finest rally racer on the market. While GT3's rally and RalliSport make look somewhat cleaner, their gameplay facets do not even touch the incredible depth of WRC. WRC not only stands out as the best rally title on the market, but one of the best racers as well. Surely, this is guaranteed to be one of biggest sleeper hits of the year. World Rally Championship is a must have rally title for every rally enthusiast with a PS2.

Of course, Codemasters' upcoming Colin McRae Rally 3 will most likely drop this game off my playlist for a bit, but then again, I'll most likely play this even more just to compare the two. Well, you've read enough for today- slide on down to your nearest game shoppe, pick up a copy of WRC, and see for yourself just how great this game is.

When it comes to rally games on the PlayStation 2, World Rally Championship wins by default, but also should carry its own against upcoming competition, since there’s no other rally games out there at the moment, except Paris-Dakar Rally, and that doesn’t count because it’s hideous. Yet even with Colin McRae 3 and V-Rally 3 on the way for the PS2, WRC has the goods to keep pace with them. It has that important WRC license, excellent gameplay and a really well balanced simulation versus arcade feel, along with some pretty good graphics to boot. So if you’re a racing fan who wants something that you don’t get a lot of here in the US, give WRC a try – it’s worth it.

Doch da auch das Fahrgefühl stimmt und die Grafik mit zum Besten gehört, was das Genre zu bieten hat, gibt es für PS2-Rennfahrer kaum einen Grund, sich WRC nicht in die Garage zu stellen. Dass World Rally Championship trotz allem am Award vorbei geschlittert ist, liegt an den doch eher mager ausgefallenen Tuning-Optionen und vor allem an der im Vergleich zum Solospiel erschreckend geringen Anzahl an Strecken im Zwei-Spieler-Modus. Doch wer hauptsächlich alleine spielt, wird als Rennspieler kaum an WRC vorbei kommen.

One of the most pleasant surprises I've had in quite sometime, WRC: World Rally Championship is among the top racers for PlayStation 2 available so far. Eye-numbing visuals, easy to pick up driving, excellent stage design, and more modes and secrets than you can shake a stick at, Evolution Studios have created a monster. Hell, even the soundtrack is great!

Overall, Bam! should definitely be applauded for their very well made game. In additional to being visually stunning, WRC nicely captures the excitement and the general feel of rally racing and will surely appeal to diehard rally fans and newcomers alike.

It's interesting to note that this game has already been released in Europe, and it almost didn't make it to our shores because of a publishing decision by Sony. Thankfully, Bam Entertainment picked up World Rally Championship's publishing rights in North America, which means that US fans of the sport won't have to miss out on this exceptional rally game--one that has no equal on the PlayStation 2.

WRC PS2 isn't perfect, but there's a lot to like. Rallisport Challenge may have the game beat in terms of multiplayer and graphics, but WRC PS2 gives a better representation of rally racing in the real world. The game has a great feel, the graphics are super, the replays are worth the price of admission, and nothing beats taking the championship away from the likes of Sainz, McRae and Burns.

There aren?t many licensed racing games that make you feel like you?re in an actual competition when you play, but World Rally Championship is one of those rare exceptions. The overall presentation of World Rally Championship is simply amazing. You can race in every official car and on every official track of the 2001 WRC, and the level design is just incredible. The gameplay mirrors genuine rally racing: Instead of speeding along at the same time with a pack of competitors, you must drive solo against the clock. Controlling your car on these tricky tracks, however, can be frustrating at times due to the loose handling of your vehicle.

Accessibilité et réalisation photo-réaliste sont les points forts de ce titre qui s'adresse à un très large public. Les vrais puristes de la simulation lui reprocheront sans doute son manque de challenge et de pêche au niveau des sensations de conduite, même si le soft ne manque pas d'intérêt.
